That is not how it happened. He hated the baby. He begged Bella to abort it.
It wasn't till five minutes after she was born that the imprint took place.

Her other book, The Host, pretty much parallels it.
I did not pick up on that (then again I should admit I know almost nothing about the Mormon church and their beliefs). How does it parallel?

I saw some of beliefs show through in Twilight. The teens don't drink, don't do drugs, abstain from sex (at least untill marriage) which are some positive examples but not realistic.

They're all kind of boring... Honestly, I would have found the books better written and more believable had their been a little more... naughtiness, for lack of a better word. I don't mean outright endorsing these activities, but at least acknowledging them.

Well, I mostly learned about it from TVtropes. But still, Mormons shouldn't write about Indians. It's just wrong. I'm not lost, not Jewish, and wouldn't even pass the physical, know what I mean, know what I mean, wink wink nudge nudge say no more.

Jon, At first I was like "what? No..." and then I figured it out, and was like "oh."

I know what exactly what you mean and agree. At least acknoledge that it exists.

Actually I read that Jacob was based off a Native American friend of Stephenie's from her teen years. And his name was Jacob also.
Then her siblings got jealous that an old friend got to be in her story so she had to name other characters after her brothers and sisters to make them happy.

Jon, I know what you mean...
So what did TV tropes say about the Host and the church of Mormon?

Somehow, the way I said it sounds more perverted than just saying "I'm uncircumcised," though. Isn't that how modesty is? Now can we get off my dick?

I was thinking more of the "wild ones". Of course, the conservative Christianity in Twilight is more obvious: Early marriage, saving sex until marriage, etc. Real teens do have sex. It doesn't make them any better or worse than those who don't. But I still…If Twilight ever becomes a musical, I want the following song for Jacob:

I am the very model of an indigenous pedophile
I've information vampirical, lycanthropic and other viles
I know Eddiepuss is a vampire and Bella can only get hurt
Now look at me as I show my hot body without a shirt

&c.

Though fans prefer me to the vampire-fest
I resign to a fate that is the squickiest
But still in matters vampirical, lycanthropic and other viles
I am the very model of an indigenous pedophile

Hi all--it's been a while. Life is crazy as always--kids are out of school and hopefully we've dealt with the last go-around of strep throat.

How is everyone?

Interesting discussion-may I respectfully suggest if you want to know what Mormons believe, you should go to the source and check out Mormon.org - Home instead of TV trope? I would suggest you do the same with any religion you have questions about--go to a friend who practices that religion or to an official source. Just sayin.

Soooo on to other thoughts. I want to take the kids to see Up, but my choices are a really expensive theater, ($7.50 for a matinee?) or a REALLY smelly theater. (Like a moldy cushion the dog had an accident on).

I'm thinking DVD wins.

Or you could just watch the South Park episode "All About the Mormons" which is actually extremely accurate.

Hey! You brought it up.

Wasn't she raised in the Southwest? The Jacob for her years and the Bella's Jacob would be from two completely different tribes.

The Mormons have also changed it over the years from all Indians being Jews to some Indians being Jews to…Most Mormons believe all versions simultaneously.

Easy for the guy whose religion has no canon to speak of to say.

Curiously, the Nazis said the Sioux were Aryans, but gave no other opinions on Indians. My theory? They read too many Karl May dime novels.

Twilight isn't about vampires, it's about teenagers with sharp teeth.
Vampires don't "sparkle" in the sun: they screech in horror, burst into flame and wither to ash.

To piss off Jeff Weise (a.k.a. NativeNazi, Todesengel. That was that Indian who shot up the school. But he was Chippewa, hence to piss him off.) More likely because the Nazis were all about Naturvölken, and the Sioux are among the tallest people in the world, and Sioux men were in no way ashamed of their bodies, so it was all impressionism at work. Or it could be because a Nazi journalist had a grandmother from America who was Sioux somewhere back.

The Nazi definition of "Aryan" was…bizarre. As far as I can gather, the Japanese were Aryans, as were the Tibetans. There were even black Aryans.

Though it's always worth a chuckle that the most exogamous people on the planet would be considered "pure Aryans".

Well I don't know what tribe the real Jacob was from but I guess because Bella was moving to the Pacific Northwest she researched on google which tribes are from there and went from there.

p&w, thanks for the link. I know I can look it up but I wanted to know what Jon had read about The Host/Mormon connections.
I'd love to have a $7.50 matinee again. Hasn't been that way since I was in school. Now a matinee is now around $10.

Sheida
So excited to get a new look here

So anyone watching Burn Notice? I've been enjoying the season so far. I like how they always give the spy advice. I wonder if anyone has ever used it?
