Steph, I think it might have been awesome 5-10 years ago, now, it looks a bit awkward. Not that i'm trying to defend twilight, but seriously, with it's status, you'd hope they'd put more effort into getting this too look good, not just try and rape the fangirls for hard earned cash.

Jon, have you read twilight?

Twilight isn't about vampires, it's about teenagers with sharp teeth.
Vampires don't "sparkle" in the sun: they screech in horror, burst into flame and wither to ash.

No, I haven't, but everything I've gotten about it I picked up off teh Intarnets. TVtropes has a whole section in Unfortunate Implications about Twilight. (The Indians turn into wolves.)

It was my (lame) attempt at making fun of idiot directors rerererereleasing their movies. Speaking of which, where are we?

Steph, Did you miss the part with the actual dog who looks like Beethoven on steroids? That's really my complaint. The transformation itself is fine, but the dog looks so absolutely fake, I can't imagine what a whole pack of them is going to be like. I know that the dogs aren't supposed to look like real wolves, but I kind of wish (since they clearly can't get a better cgi guy) that they had just used real wolves like in Blood and Chocolate.

Jon, why is that a bad implication? I was under the impression that humans turning into animals, like skin walkers, was an Indian legend.

Wendigo....

I know where we were.....Uwe Boll is making Bloodrayne 3. That's wrong. Just plain wrong.

Isn't the wendigo a human who permanently becomes a monster though? I have no idea, we'll have to wait for Jon.

Wrong culture area. I'm from an area somewhat warmer. (And hotter than hell in summer.) And the Unfortunate Implications are because the founding fathers compared Indians to wolves regularly. Jacob's also bipolar and a pedophile, at least according to TVtropes.

Clever of her to find a way to justify guys going around without shirts all the time, though.

Oh I see. In all fairness to Meyers, I don't think she's well-educated enough to know that.

I'm not sure about bipolar, but the pedophile thing is pretty creepy.

I once read that Stephenie Meyer took the legends about wolves directly from Quileute legends.

Also I thought Taylor was part Native American and it was not until after I saw Twilight and looked him up that I found out he wasn't. I was a bit surprised.

I don't know what else to say. I didn't think dog on steroids.

I think they didn't use real wolves because they have to be gigantic.

Then again you have to think they only wrapped a few weeks ago. This could be a rough cut. They have a few more months to work on the cgi. They probably just rushed out the trailer for the MTV movie awards.

That's funny, I thought he was Asian until I learned he was white after Twilight.

And it gets worse: He falls in love with "Renésmee" before she's born, or even conceived. That was the inspiration for my Callista satire.

That's what I thought, and I know that some Native American tribes have skin walker legends, which is similiar to werewolves. Though I'm pretty sure that actual werewolves are European based.

Oooo, you kind of just made my day Steph. That may very well be it. I remember the demo for a FF12 had a similiar problem, but the game was perfectly fine.

Yeah, but that's <sidious>a pathway to abilities many consider to be unnatural.</sidious>

In this case, it's because the Quileutes traditionally believed they were descended from wolves, which is oddly still more likely than what Meyer herself believes. But it's still Unfortunate Implications.

Expect my usual snark about a Mormon writing about Indians, which is actually pretty similar to my snark about Wolverton's lost tribe of Jedi. Come to think of it, I don't know a single Mormon SF/fantasy writer who hasn't made reference to the Book of Mormon in some way.

Meyers made a reference to the Book of Mormon somewhere?

Her other book, The Host, pretty much parallels it.

One more reason not to read The Host.
