I was not very receptive towards TFA when it was initially released, largely because I felt that it lacked the thematic depth and mythological complexity of the previous films and was made with an agenda that I didn't agree with (Abrams and Kasdan's desire to directly replicate the feelings that they themselves were experiencing immediately after seeing A New Hope for the very first time in 1977), but my appreciation and acceptance of it has grown in the 2+ years since its release and I'm not as lukewarm about it as I used to be, especially in light of the recent revelation that Luke's arc in both it and TLJ (especially TLJ) was actually conceived of directly by George Lucas.

^ Yeah; there's concept art from a 2013 meeting at which George was present and that depicts Luke as looking quite similar to how he appears in both TFA and TLJ.
