Sounds like a lot was missing that should have been included :look:

Yea, they dropped the ball on a lot of things. But having Finn want to tell Rey something and then not ever telling her. :nono: Lazy.

It's astounding to see so much incompetence at such a high level of professional filmmaking.

‘Star Wars’ Author Tells All About Removed Rey-Finn Romance and His ‘Last Jedi’ Retcon Story

BehrItAll 06-22-2021 07:14 PM

Quote:

“I expected to see that developed further in [‘The Last Jedi’],” Foster said. “And zero happened with it. And we all know why zero happened with it — and there’s no need to go into it in-depth — but that’s, sadly, just the way things are.”
But do we really know? I want the recordings of the conversations that happened about the script decisions of TLJ. :look:I want to know what the heck they were thinking when making that mess.

Quote:

Foster was forced to remove any inclination of a romance between the characters in his “The Force Awakens” book, as the film’s would later develop a sort-of romance between Finn and Rose Tico (introduced in “The Last Jedi” but nonexistent in “The Rise of Skywalker”) and a will-they-won’t-they between Rey and Kylo Ren (introduced in “The Last Jedi” and sealed with a kiss in “The Rise of Skywalker,” but Abrams said it was more a “brother-sister thing”).
 WHO kisses their siblings like that!?

Quote:

Speaking of “The Last Jedi,” Foster also revealed the existence of a treatment he wrote for an “Episode IX” book that retconned the events of Rian Johnson’s second installment of the sequel trilogy. Foster called “The Last Jedi” both “a terrible film” and “a terrible ‘Star Wars’ film,” adding that his treatment “attempted to explain a lot of the really silly things that happened” in “The Last Jedi.” The treatment was written for fans and was not something Disney commissioned.
I agree with him!

Quote:

One plot point the treatment retconned was how Rey “suddenly had more Force powers than anybody.” Foster came up with a storyline where Rey had a disease that required replacing part of her brain with mechanics, thus making her part droid and more able to quickly acquire a new skillset.

“That gives her the ability to learn remarkably quickly and also enhances her existing Force powers, and that’s how she can throw boulders around at the end of Episode VIII,” Foster said. “Also, it allows her to be instantly simpatico with other droids. I thought this would be a really fun story element, as well as explaining why and how she’s able to do these remarkable things.”
I want to read more of this.

Well, I think at least part of the reason was them wanting to reduce Finn's role in hopes of getting that Chinese box office money.

Yeah, goes to show what a mess the planning, or lack thereof, for the sequel trilogy was.

Cyborg brain certainly would've been more interesting than anything they actually ended up doing. :p

Ding, ding, ding!

I can't stand how they pander to the CCP given all the atrocities that government commits against humanity.

IKR!

Another theory I saw, before ROS, was that Rey was the incarnation of The Force itself.

Another one I read, (which I thought was ridiculous because it's too much like ripping off Avatar/ The Legends of Korra) was they she's the reincarnation of Anakin Skywalker. Glad that one was not in the movie.

Yeah, it's so depressing. I would hope the Mulan debacle taught them the error of their ways, but I doubt it.

That reincarnation theory is wild. Wonder how Luke would've reacted to seeing his dad in the body of a teenage girl?

All they care about is $$.

Weirded out. I am glad that stayed as a fan theory online.

New rumors speculating about who will star with Daisy Ridley in the next Star Wars movie: John Boyega!

scififan2009 04-21-2023 04:59 PM

I hope so. I want to see more of them together.
