Definitely, they brought out the best in each other. And she said in an interview that even if she had to do like 10 takes of something he would be supportive and patient (since he has more experience he gets things done a bit faster).

I believe that JJ at some point in the beginning of the creative process though about making Rey's parents someone important and he probably told that to Simon Pegg, but eventually ended up with Rey's parents being nobodies, because it made the most narrative sense regarding Kylo and Rey's storyline and their dynamic.
