I think the big mistake was to make kids the target audience. It took a lot of the depth that the original trilogy had.

Yes I agree. The new movies are more grown up, but also too try hard original, especially the last jedi which was a failed attempt of SW re-inventing itself.

I personally prefer more the star wars stories rogue one and solo, but I also liked episode 7 after all. It was pretty good maybe took just a bit too many things from a new hope though. Last jedi was a mess for me though.
