I just read that Carrie will guest star in an episode of The Big Bang Theory She's super funny so it'll probably be awesome.

Thanks for the new thread.

I really need to watch the Star Wars films.

I'm probably the only person on the planet that hasn't watched them.

You probably are

No no worries. Better late than never. Enjoy.
I watched the old ones first and then the new but if you want a chronical order than you should start with the new ones first.

Agreed agreed agreed.

And I'm very excited about her and JEJ being on TBBT. I may have screamed like a little girl getting a pony when the writers revealed it at the GGs!

Watching the new ones first is the best way to ruin the Star wars experience and give oneself a wholly distorted view of Star wars. The films should be watched in the order they came out. Chronological order is entirely unnecessary. The original films did quite well on their own without the prequels for 16 years.

Well then maybe you could go by the real-world chronological order in which the movies were made.

When Lucas made the Original Trilogy he had a totally different version of the backstory (Anakin's story) than he had later on when he made the Prequels. Between making Return of the Jedi in the early '80s and making The Phantom Menace in the late '90s, he totally revised his view of Star Wars, Anakin, the Jedi, etc. Watching the Prequels first leads the viewer to misinterpret the Original Trilogy based on what was decided later for the Prequels. It leads the viewer to see the Original Trilogy in terms of the Prequels, which is not how Lucas or the audiences saw the films back in the '70s and '80s when they came out.

Take just one example of just one thing that was changed between 1983 and 1999: When they made Returrn of the Jedi Anakin was supposed to be in his 60s when he died. That puts him in his 40s when romanced Luke and Leia's mother and turned dark and when Luke and Leia were born. That totally changes the story -no whiney teenage Anakin, no Anakin being turned because he was young and impressionable, probably no childhood romance between Anakin and Luke and Leia's mother (you can bet Hollywood wouldn't have cast a woman in her forties for that role, when Anakin was in his forties, so Anakin probably would have been at least ten years older than her). And the indications are that Anakin was envisioned as an adult or at least late teens when he first met Kenobi. For Anakin's age in Return of the Jedi, see the Annotated Screenplays.

Also, the Jedi were originally envisioned as being the force that stood against corruption in the Republic and died for it, whereas in the Prequels they are portrayed as being somewhat corrupt and misguided themselves and fighting a war they shouldn't have. And fighting the Clone Wars was originally seen as idealistic heroism, not fighting a misguided war.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. So much changed in the backstory between the making of the Original Trilogy and the making of the Prequels. The whole spirit and mentality of Star Wars changed, quite apart from the interpretations of characters and events. To watch the Prequels before watching the Original Trilogy ensures that you can never see the original films the way they were seen back in the '70s and '80s when they first came out. It means you can't ever see Lucas's original vision, only his later revised view.
