I'm writing a fic and so on my phone I have all these links to Reylo TLJ gifsets saved. I'll open them up for inspiration and end up staring for like 5 minutes...usually specifically at Kylo.

Like Adam always says, I never saw him as a villain. I see him as a victim and a lost boy. Who needs a big slap from him mom

I wonder what they're gonna do with Leia and Ben. Obviously they had something in mind...

They certainly did. I think that Leia was supposed to be the last peace of the puzzle to his redemption. In Ep. VII he had a confrontation with Han, Ep. VII he was confronted by Luke. Both of these confrontations brought him closer to turning back.

That certainly brings the question of how they will replace her "role" to mind... By role I mean, her role in terms of how Kylo will go through his redemption.

Obviously Leia is his mother so that would have had the most impact, but since she's not available anymore,

here are a few possibilities for Lucasfilm:

- Have her die in the crawl/early on and have Kylo mourn her heavily, maybe show up at her funeral in hiding? And Rey could see him but SAY NOTHING and let him mourn (aww) BUT THEN, go against what they said, which is that they wouldn't CGI Carrie Fisher, by CGI'ing her in the story as a force ghost, which could work because force ghosts can look weird and it's fine. From there, continue as originally planned, but with Leia as a ghost instead of alive.

- Have another character replace her in Kylo's arc, because she was obviously important. Options: Luke? Anakin? Personally I would LOVE for Anakin to show up.

- Have Rey replace Leia's presence in IX. She was already going to be important, but if she also replaces Leia then she would, like... IMPORTANT. I don't know if that could work, since I think Kylo would have been redeemed by both Rey's love, and his mother's love.

Any other ideas?

I strongly feel (haven’t read any comments theories) but I strongly feel that Leia’s death could come as a good thing it’s shown that Kylo has a weakness regarding his mother - so her death, even by his hand aka an attack where he doesn’t know she’s there (possible or nah?) and that tiggers deep emotions to move onto a redemption or at least a Gray

I like the idea of Ben mourning his mom in hiding at her funeral.

There is no easy way to handle Carrie's passing in terms of the storyline People will feel duped out of seeing her in person in Episode IX but it's something JJ can't be blamed for, obviously.
