I hear it has a new introduction at the beginning too. I'm looking forward to seeing what these notes are that Zahn's writing. Whether it'll be about the writing process or how he got particular ideas.
Same here. The novella is really the selling point for me, but those other things should be interesting too.

I never really formed an opinion of Ferasi. I think it's an obvious ship, that one, since she seemed pretty hot for Thrawn in my view.

Heck, his reaction to Ferasi was pretty much 'oh, that's nice. Thanks I guess.'
That was exactly his reaction! He seemed mildly indulgent, what with the private language lessons, but I think their "romance" was very one-sided. Still, I would prefer a Ferasi/Thrawn ship to a Pellaeon/Thrawn one because at least there's a basis for Ferasi/Thrawn. I just don't see one with Pellaeon, all I see is respect, which doesn't equal romance IMHO.

Still, that's part of what I love about the character, that he hasn't been railroaded into a romance plot...yet...
Yea, some characters are better left single. I can't imagine Thrawn in-love.

Basically what I'm saying is I'd rather Thrawn not be involved romantically with another character, but if I was going to ship him it wouldn't be with Pellaeon.

I like both, but I know what you mean. Obvious ships are "easier" if that makes sense. I'm a big multi-shipper lately tho, it seems, so I'm all over some weirder pairings in some fandoms.

Oh no, they're not bad at all! Sometimes I go for them myself. I just like ferreting out obscure ones because quite often the obvious ones have a big enough following already. Not that this is the case with Thrawn. As I say, I prefer no pairing for him. Other than perhaps some sort of physical manifestation of the universe's art because let's face it, we know where our Admiral's heart really lies.

I think often the respect is all that's needed. I know some people note how Pellaeon admits he'd die for him, that he gets quite upset about the thought of being left behind during the duology, and that he blushes when Thrawn says nice things about him. But that really is just a symbol of caring about someone and respecting their way of doing things. Heck, I wrote a lieutenant-captain duo similar to that which wasn't even close to romantic so I get what you mean.

Obvious ships aren't so much bad as overdone. And once your ship sinks, you can expect millions of fixfics.

And if there are any two characters, even if separated by thousands of light-years and thousands of years, they will be paired together. (This does not just apply to franchises with space travel and time travel.)

True!

Those things are just manifestation of Pellaeon's respect for Thrawn. Pellaeon wants Thrawn's approval because he's a talented admiral.

It's also worth noting that when Thrawn died Pellaeon was torn-up for the loss of the last great Imperial officer. There was no implication that he was grieving the loss of a lover.

They're still better than ships that make absolutely no sense and have no basis. For me to ship two people there has to be some hint of an attraction or the possibility of a relationship. I just don't get it when people like Dorme and Obi-Wan get shipped together, for instance.

So... at SDCC I bought Choices of One and Timothy Zahn signed it along with a free paperback of Allegiance.
Pics on the way.

He scribbled on your book? You should complain. Can't have writers running around conventions vandalizing people's books.

Seriously? D: The jealousy I feel right now is like a physical force.

By the time I knew he was going there it was a week before and, well, living in the UK...no chance.

Still, I did get my copy about a week before it was estimated for delivery, and finished it that night I got so engrossed. I'm sure part of that is just me loving Zahn's writing style, but I remember there being a couple of moments where I had to stop reading just to say '...that is epic'.

Just don't be that guy. You know, the one who brings everything he owns that the author has done, and asks him to sign it? You don't want to be that guy. Becuase Murphy's Law of Cons says that if you're three spaces behind that guy, the place will close just before you get him to sign it.

That guy is also the old lady that brings out over nine thousand dollars in pennies, unrolled, and counts every last one at the bank.

Evrea, Zhan's style takes me a few days to read. I could never marathon read his books.

Jon, I didn't even know Zahn was doing a signing till I came across the line.
Besides, I don't bring books to signings. I buy the new one they are selling.

I'm one of those people who can get through at least one novel a day if I feel like it. I have been known to do week-long marathons going through Zahn's SW novels in chronological order.

My parents hate it when I ask for books for christmas, because I've always read them all come January.

I am way impressed. I am lucky if I make it to 25 books a year.
