Wait a minute, you don't think they "aged" Padme's character properly?

I think she aged just fine. You see a difference betweem TPM and AotC (young teen to adult).
And your not supposed to see one between AotC and RotS.

I was pretty impressed at Natalie's weight gain for RotS myself. She looked pregnant. And I get the feeling Natalie is naturally thin, so gaining weight is probably difficult.

There was that one scene on the balcony though that was a pick-up scene. She got so, so skinny. I think she was getting ready to film V for Vendetta at that point.

Oh yes, I've emailed Karen Traviss personally. I told her my cousin's unit actually has "Vode An" tattooed on their arms. And how my cousin explained "You know, what the Jedi did is no different than what the government does to us. Eugenically bred soldiers? That's us. Naturally the government does such things with our best interests at heart, of course." But I hastily added a list of darksiders Luke has redeemed who were unrelated to him.

(But that's what Lucas was going for. All the "hanging" imagery of Luke in Empire is a clear Christian allusion; he's actually in the crucifixion positon in the bacta tank. And of course through the son's suffering, the father is redeemed.)

I have no idea what I'd ever say to KT personally, if I met her...probably something about how she did a hatched job and character assasinated the greatest female SW EU character in the post ROTJ era, but yeah that sounds about right

Are you talking about Mara (literally) or Jaina (figuratively)? Because it wasn't her decision to kill Mara. Though it could've been done better; I honestly found myself sympathizing with Jacen in name only.

Okay I think I missed the part where American Indians are grown in tanks for the sole purpose of fighting and dying.

^ Sounds sarcastic, but I'm not. I honestly don't understand what you're saying and if you don't mind would like it explained. You can PM me if it's long.

When she was in the blue dress? The only part of that scene I remember really well is that horrible wig they stuffed on her head. Poor Natalie. I do remember her looking a little skinny near the end when she ran down the ramp to see Anakin.

Well, until the 1990s, Indian women were forcibly sterilized. In the 1990s, our genes came under patent. From the 1820s to the present day, if you were less than a quarter Indian, defined in a very bizarre way (For instance, I could be 1/8 from each of the Sioux reservations and 1/8 Cheyenne, and not be considered Indian.), you weren't an Indian.

So the government's guilty of eugenic breeding.

We also serve in the military at a disproportionate number.

Jon, at the risk of sounding stupid I don't know what it means to have genes under "patent." I know what a patent is by definition, but I don't know biologically what this would mean.

Well, the reason they did so is to "preserve" us or whatever their rationalization was. But the fact that any individual has these patent rights means they also have the right to genetically modify us, use our genes to genetically modify other organisms, and, should it ever become legal, clone us. In fact, cloning sounds like the reasoning behind it.

Actually, a majority of the human genome is under patent, and owned by private interests. This is currently being debated in congress, as the right of a private interest to have sole ownership of something that is a) held by every person on this earth and b) shared by a number of different species on earth, is very much in question. An analogy is someone trying to patent the chemical make up for the earth's atmosphere. When you think about it, 4% is the difference between you and a chimpanzee. 8% is the difference between you and a dog. Genetically, most species are very similar.

and on a different note, if you're going to sdcc.

Jon & Jerry, yea I didn't know any of that. To be honest I have no problem with cloning in theory, so long as we don't have any of the craziness like SW cloning (meaning civil rights and all that). Really, I think it will be a long time before humans are cloned openly without social retribution, especially in America where everyone thinks they have to defend God's way. Having genes under patent is kind of weird though. Talk about thinking ahead.

I wish I were going.

EDIT:

Jon, so I was thinking about what you said, and did whatever rep who explained this actually use the word "preserve"? Because that's kind of not okay. That's the word my friend (who works at a zoo) utilizes when talking about breeding her endangered rhinos. Normally I'm all about being blunt, but I think (s)he could have found something more diplomatic to say. Especially concerning a sensitive issue.
