I think that she was taken aback by that look he gave her. Look how she starts to step backwards. I think that she realized in what kind of situation she just got them in. She had to gain some distance

Yep, and I think she was feeling breathless because he's her equal in the sense that he's not afraid to argue back to her. They always both want the last word.

She was taken aback and breathless, just like he was, when she first called him by his name and started getting closer and closer to him. They both totally disarmed each other in that scene

I love how it's the first scene in which we hear them both speak their first names to each other. They're so emotionally close by this point in the movie

Agreed And it's even better, knowing that Adam was already playing the character as planning to kill Snoke (after the hut scene). He's looking at Rey with intense emotion here, as if he wants to calm her worries.

It must have been so hard and painful for him not being able to tell her, what he's planning to do and tell her, that everything's going to be fine. Because Rey must have been really nervous and scared of meeting Snoke

I love that Rian has confirmed this for us, because you can literally read Adam's portrayal of restraint in the elevator. He tries hard not to look at Rey, not to talk to her, or be near her, but his emotions betray him when she says "Ben?" - She really brings the humanity out of him.


Like you said, it must have killed him inside not to say anything to her Because to Rey, it seems as if Kylo is leading her to her death by meeting Snoke.

Yes, she brings the humanity out of him, because subconsciously, he wants her to see him not as Kylo Ren, but as Ben Solo


Especially after she put so much faith in him. And she still believed, in the elevator and even in the throne room, but she took a big risk and she was terrified, that she might have been wrong and that she might die.

That look they share in the throne room when Snoke tells Kylo to kill Rey... When Rey says "Ben..." and he's giving her that stare - you can see the pain in him to remain silent.
