Ok I am back from vacation and then I was so busy at work I had no time to breath! Phew

So here is some news! Hayden and Ian visited a children's hospital and their panel at the con was cancelled! I think Disney didn't want them accidentally leaking anything.

Quote:
A Star Wars Weekend with Hayden Christensen and Ian McDiarmid at FanX.

Here’s a rundown of events with Hayden and Ian at FanX with pictures…

Fans are always looking for that first post or pic of Hayden Christensen arriving for a scheduled event. We don’t want to miss anything so we’re always on the watch and FanX was no different and there were some surprises.

Not only were Salt Lake City convention goers eagerly anticipating one of the country’s largest premiere comic cons, but fans who couldn’t go wanted to keep up with the happenings and first sightings of Darth Vader and Anakin Skywalker himself, Hayden Christensen. It was also a double header with the Evil Emperor Palpatine himself, Ian McDiarmid.

Thursday, September 5, 2019

So two Sith walk into a hospital….Before we even knew the convention had kicked off on Thursday, we were treated to photos of a surprise visit by Hayden and Ian McDiarmid at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City. The kids, all smiles, were into this and had their lightsabers ready to defend against a Sith invasion. Who knew Sith were really such good guys after all.

Friday, September 6, 2019

Photo Ops and Autographs aside on Friday during the day, there was a trip to Utah Symphony’s Star Wars Concert: The Empire Strikes Back that evening. Hayden and Ian surprised the audience with the introductions. Hayden encouraged the audience to “cheer and clap and make as much noise you want” since this was no ordinary concert. Ian was a little more biased and asked the audience to cheer whenever they saw the Emperor and Darth Vader and “register their contempt when they saw a Jedi”.

Saturday, September 7, 2019

And what’s a large gathering of geeks without a little Star Wars drama. Oh yes, there was supposed to be a Star Wars Spotlight Panel on Saturday with Hayden and Ian but that didn’t happened. It was announced shortly before the panel was to begin with Hayden and Ian, that Disney had called to say they wouldn’t be allowed to talk at the panel. A Q&A was not allowed nor were any photo ops from the stage. Things that make you go hmmmm……And we’re still talking about it.

501st Alpine Garrison / Saber Guild Ruusan Temple / Utah

At some point during all the convention’s scheduled activities, Hayden and Ian were able to schedule a visit with some special kids and their families for Make-A-Wish of Utah organized by the 501st Alpine Garrison (Bad guys doing good).

Utah is full of Star Wars fans doing good things. The Lucas Film recognized Star Wars costuming group, Saber Guild Ruusan Temple, met with Hayden during the convention to make him an honorary member and presented him with a plaque. The Saber Guild and 501st Alpine Garrison do volunteer and charity work besides performing and appearing at Star Wars events.

Only a Sith deals in Absolutes but we know absolutely that Hayden Christensen is one of the nicest, kindest people in the Star Wars Universe. It’s been nice to see so much love cast his way since he began appearing at Star Wars events in 2017. The fans who love the prequels and all the Star Wars films have spoken volumes with their enthusiasm and positive reactions to his appearances. It’s Star Wars after all and we are all looking forward to much more fun to come.

It is. Twitter doesn't work for me on the computer anymore. And I have no idea how Tumblr works. So you may or may not see the hospital photos from the link

It's a slide show so click the arrows.

But really suspicious, the canceling of the panel! Right?

I don't want to hold my breath, but I am crossing my fingers that the canceled panel means Hayden also makes an appearance in Episode 9.

Yea! So sweet.

The Hollywood Reporter: “Why Anakin Should Return for ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker'”

Quote:
From The Hollywood Reporter:

"Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’s final trailer has been revealed, and it looks to close the three-film, 40-year Skywalker Saga. Given the title, the Skywalker bloodline will have a crucial role to play. [...] This leaves the role of the Anakin Skywalker still unclear. The character has had important roles in both the original trilogy and the prequel trilogy. His mask still serves as a symbol for grandson Kylo Ren. As the first Skywalker and original chosen one, what role does Abrams envision for him?

Anakin’s role in Star Wars is likely the most important across all sagas when put into proper context. In the Age of Rebellion, fans were introduced to Anakin through Darth Vader. [...] Sixteen years later, George Lucas returned to Star Wars with Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. While the trilogy was divisive among longtime fans, there is an entire generation that grew up with this set of films as their first interaction with Star Wars. For many, Anakin Skywalker is Hayden Christensen’s portrayal before he is Darth Vader. It is this generation of fans who are now in their 20s, eagerly hoping that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will give respect to their era of Star Wars as much as it does the original trilogy.

Plot-wise, there are many ways to have Anakin Skywalker’s presence felt in The Rise of Skywalker. The first is to affirm his place as the Chosen One, the one who can bring balance to the Force. For a while, Anakin was well on his way to fulfilling it. His time training with Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) and becoming one of the leading generals during The Clone Wars series proved his valor. He was manipulated and turned to the dark side by Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid), mostly due to the fear of losing Padme (Natalie Portman). After defeating him on Mustafar, Kenobi cried for his fallen brother, yet Anakin’s story did not end there and his destiny as the Chosen One was not truly lost. Anakin Skywalker ended up fulfilling his destiny when he killed the Emperor and redeemed himself in the eyes of his son. This makes Emperor Palpatine’s role in The Rise of Skywalker that much more interesting. His rebirth in the Sequel Trilogy should not take away from Anakin’s actions in The Return of the Jedi, so there must be more left to his story that Abrams wants to tie together.

While the Age of Resistance is essentially the story of Rey and Kylo Ren, Abrams has stated on numerous occasions that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be giving respect to all three eras of Star Wars. This is evident by Emperor Palpatine’s return as the primary villain of the film, reaffirming his place as the one true evil across all three sagas. While Anakin and Luke Skywalker should both have a role in the defeat of Palpatine again, it will likely be Rey or Kylo who win the day.

So how can Anakin Skywalker return in The Rise of Skywalker without overshadowing the other characters? One idea is for a fan-servicey Avengers: Endgame style showdown. Rey has been trained by Luke Skywalker and his Force Ghost is likely going to be assisting Rey in some fashion. Kylo Ren takes great influence from his grandfather, just the wrong side of him. The concept of both original Skywalkers appearing as Force Ghosts in the final battle against Palpatine could leave most fans satisfied. Still, Star Wars is known to be a bit subtler than Marvel and there might be more subdued ways to make Anakin Skywalker work.

Concept images for Star Wars: The Force Awakens suggest Anakin Skywalker was going to have a brief appearance as a distorted Force Ghost. [Note: it was just an idea from a concept artist, it wasn't in a rough script] It was unclear what role the ghost would have had before the idea was scrapped but it did feature Hayden Christensen as an Anakin-Vader hybrid Force ghost, likely to influence Kylo Ren in some way. Exploring this concept further could lead to a moment where Anakin speaks to Kylo Ren, explaining the errors of his own past and the path to redemption that is still possible. [...]

For viewers who grew up with the prequels, whose first connection to Anakin Skywalker was as a Jedi, not as Vader, having Hayden Christensen return in The Rise of Skywalker would be just as poignant as when original trilogy fans saw Mark Hamill’s old Luke Skywalker in the final shots of The Force Awakens. To be a true finale of the Skywalker Saga, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker needs Anakin Skywalker to have some role in the film. Whether that role is a full appearance or just a symbolic one, it is safe to say that Abrams has something in mind to leave the legacy of Star Wars in a good place."
The Rise of Skywalker: What if Anakin isn’t in it?

Quote:
We are all looking forward to The Rise of Skywalker and on social media the theories and leaks are flying around our ears like shrapnel. But for all characters we know are returning, one way or the other, in Episode IX, one name is consistently absent: Anakin. So what if Anakin isn't in the story? Could that be? If so, then why? And what would it mean?

What do we know so far?

J.J. Abrams started this trilogy with his Episode VII, The Force Awakens, and we know from the concept-art for that film that they were entertaining the idea of a force-ghost appearance of Anakin Skywalker. It would seem like a perfectly sensible way to connect the Sequel Trilogy with the Prequel Trilogy given that the connection to the Original Trilogy was already obvious due to the presence of Han, Luke and Leia. For reasons I am unaware of the team producing The Force Awakens decided to abandon this path. I am quite sure that Rian Johnson has considered an appearance by Anakin as well but has opted for the safer option of a Yoda appearance in The Last Jedi. Since the release of the first teaser trailer of The Rise of Skywalker we now know Darth Sidious a.k.a. Emperor Palpatine is back in the fold for Episode IX but no reference so far has been made to as little as a cameo for Anakin Skywalker.

The difficulties with including Anakin

It is good to think for a moment about why it would actually be quite difficult to include Anakin in the Sequel Trilogy. Return of the Jedi seems to complete Anakin’s arc in a definitive manner. Not only does he die, but he also redeems himself, at least in Luke & Leia’s book, and given his force-ghost appearance next to Yoda and Obi Wan we must assume that they accept him back into the club as well. This implies that bringing Anakin is a huge can of worms for the Sequel Trilogy if they want to tell a story about Rey, Poe and Finn. In fact even the appearance of any force-ghost other than Anakin would raise questions as to where the progenitor of all of this is off to?

The difficulty with an Anakin appearance in the Sequel Trilogy is that it places the Sequel Trilogy conflict in the galaxy within his missions to “bring balance to the Force”. A mission that was supposedly completed in Return of the Jedi. A return of Anakin would suggest he had still some mission time left, triggering an avalanche of questions about the how’s, why’s and when’s of that, all distracting from the arcs of the Sequel Trilogy protagonists. In particular an appearance of Anakin would suggest also his nemesis Sidious was somehow still relevant. I suspect they hadn’t sketched out that part of the Sequel Trilogy in a final form yet. So the choice of The Force Awakens to not present any force-ghosts seems rather consistent with a desire to avoid Anakin at all cost and to make the Sequel Trilogy a story about Rey and her generation with some side-roles for the Original Trilogy crew.

Also Han’s death fits this pattern, as does Luke’s absence and Leia’s background role. All not too dissimilar from the roles the surviving Prequel Trilogy characters play in the Original Trilogy’s first instalment, A New Hope. Empire Strikes Back then raises the stakes concerning one of the Prequel Trilogy characters with Darth Vader’s parental reveal and the introduction of that other great Prequel Trilogy character, Yoda. So one could have expected that if there is to be a similar move in the Sequel Trilogy that The Last Jedi would have done so. At the time many were expecting Rey’s parentage to be this reveal, but it clearly was not.

That post is pretty long so I ended it there. To read the rest please visit the blog.
