Maleficent is one of my favourite Disney villians and for that reason, I have to admit, I'm slightly nervous about the upcoming movie, because while it can provide some solid explanation and give a better insight into her motives and behaviour in relation to Aurora, one of the most remarkable traits of her as a villian was the fact that she was JUST evil without an explanation, because sometimes evil doesn't have an explanation aside from morally corrupt and malicious egomaniacs committing harmful actions for the very sake of it. What I really love about Disney is that while the villians in those movies are layered and complex, they are never turned into victims or justified - which is something that the Maleficent movie seems to be set out to do, unfortunately.

Yes that's one thing I always wondered about myself, why was she so evil. I read "A Kiss In Time" a while back and one of the interpretations for the curse placed on Aurora was because the family had another child that died while in his crib, and Maleficent tried to help him, but was blamed for his passing. Another was because she didn't get an invite to celebrate Aurora's birth. I'm nervous about the movie also, but I'm looking forward to how they are going to bring out all the sides of this character.

I just really don't want it to go a cliche route with justifying a villian and turning Maleficent into a misunderstood martyr.__________________

Exactly she doesn't have to be a misunderstood, good at heart character. I want her bad. She just needs to be a really twisted character. There has to be at least one that way.
