Such a tragic story. I don't know much about it, but i've heard something along those lines.

Her real story was indeed sad Disney movie didn't stick to it though, Pocahontas from the movie is pretty much an entirely original character.

Alas it was. I liked that about the film.

They took some bits from the real story, but the way they wrote it and Pocahontas' character was really different from her historical equivalent. In reality she was never romantically involved with John Smith and she eventually married Rolfe but it was questionable whether it was for love or just a political alliance or whatever. The movie and the sequel tried to play both as love stories and ironically, I always felt like it would have been better if Disney Pocahontas had not had any real love story there or at least ended up single. Out of all the Disney girls I can picture her being perfectly happy on her own for some reason.

She was independent. And she loved her land which she lived on.

Exactly She was independent and free spirited and she loved her land and had the strongest connection to it. As much as Smith and Rolfe could love her... I never felt like they entirely understood her. She saw things in her own unique way.

She's too close to nature to abandon it.

She never would. She would always come back to her land because that's where she truly belonged

She was only twenty three years old That is so heartbreaking. She lost her life young. Sounds as the spirits were ready to take her to another world to carry on her beautiful natural desires.
