The Lion King #6: It's the Circle of Life, and it moves us all

the story part 1
1994. When Simba is born, it seems like he has everything.
He is the future king, has a great friend Nala and he's on top of the food chain.
But when Scar, his evil uncle, murders Mufasa, his kind father,
Simba can't help but feel it is his fault.
He runs always from home and meets Timon and Pumbaa,
2 outcasts that don't live by rules and don't look at the past.
But Simba's past is hunting him so he must choose between
living the relaxed life according to 'Hakuna Matata'
or save his family from Scar and his followers.

the story part 2
1998. Kiara is Simba's and Nala's chilid and thus future queen.
But with a very protective dad sometimes being yourself can be hard.
When Kiara goes over the wards of the Pride lands,
she meets Kovu, a young male lion.
But they're from 2 different worlds and can't be together.
So they must find a way to bring peace between their 2 countries
before they all destroy each other and their last chance at freedom.

the story part 1½
this story tells the tale of Timon and Pumbaa
before they ever met the lions.
It's the story of 2 outcasts in their own family
and together they creature their own rules, their own little family.
Together they enjoy life. Hakuna Matata.

When we die, our bodies become the grass and the antelope eat the grass.
And so we are all connected in the great circle of life.

~Mufasa
I know he's following in Scar's paw prints.
And I must follow in my father's.

~Simba

No problem! Yeah the OP is gorgeous

I found the review today while searching for thread titles. It's such a good review, I'm happy people still see this as one of the most epic Disney movies ever.

TFTNT!

That was a great review; very much agreed that it's worth seeing in 3D because it just made the experience even better!

My sister and I saw it yesterday, and the theater was impressively packed for a Sunday 7:00 PM showing. Ironically, most of the audience consisted of people my age (early 20s) and older, but hardly any young kids.

Anyway, it.was.AMAZING. I was always SO envious of all those kids and people who had gotten to see it in theaters originally in 1994 (I wasn't even in Canada then and not aware of anything to do with Walt Disney), so this was the PERFECT opportunity for me to relish in that excitement and that whole experience. The opening number always gives me goosebumps, but here, in the theater with surround sound, the 3D effect with everything so massive and right there, it just was on a whole other level. I teared up multiple times: "I just wanted to be brave like you!" Aww young!Simba wanting to be like his dad. "We'll always be pals, right? We'll always be together." The talk of the stars, the great kings, gah all the foreshadowing kills me.

And of course, Mufasa's death. SO intense on that big screen. I always hate that part, I cringe as soon as that scene begins with Scar talking to Simba on that rock in the gorge. I just want to rip Scar's head off but in every great story, there must a great villain, right? *sigh*

The music will never not impress me. The songs are SO spot on, even the funner "Hakuna Matata" just has this whole cycle to it, of showing Simba growing up with them and them being bonded for life now. And the animation too, it's just incredible. I can't believe it took them three years to do that stampede scene, but then I can believe it because there was no CGI involved, it was all real 2D and all those years and hard work paid off beyond anyone's imagination. Nothing was half-assed here, ever, and it shows.

One last thing that absolutely gave me shivers: When Simba takes his rightful place as King, the symbolism of that scene is just incredible. The reactions of everyone around him, the way the lions ROAR in approval with Simba, and most of all, the way an antelope skeleton is washed away in the groove of a ledge due to the heavy rain...it is the dawning of a new era, a new kingdom with the rightful King. Just incredible.

And as proof of all of the magnificense of this movie, at the end of it, the entire crowd in that theater was clapping and cheering loudly in approval.

-----
I would apologize for rambling on and on, but the truth is, I'm on such a high right now and there's no way to come down from it. I just love this movie so, SO much. And the fact I DID get to see it in theaters now, even if 17 years later, just means so much to me.
