I actually hadn't seen Lilo & Stitch until fairly recently, I think it was a few years ago, maybe in 2012-13 or something like that. It surprised me with how good it was and how much I enjoyed it.

It surprised me how much I loved it too, but it is a super cute movie.

when I was little I used to ship Lilo and Stitch

I was 7

I think it was because of that I just can't help falling in love with you song and b/c of this but I remember

saw it at the movies with my mom and one of my best friends and I cried when Stitch was going to be taken back to space

It came out in an era for Disney that wasn't doing very well in the animation department as it slipped off the rails after the amazing 90's era. But what makes Lilo & Stitch special for me is Lilo & Nani's sister relationship, it's just so good and feels real and relatable. This does not need to be transferred to live action. It's real and perfect enough as it is in animation, even with the aliens. And Stitch is adorable.
I disagree about the animation slipping off the rails. I think they were still putting out great quality content. I saw this post on Tumblr a while back and I still agree. I still haven't watched/need to watch Treasure Planet and I hate myself for it.

I kind of wish disney’s ~weird period~ had lasted longer. Like all of a sudden we were getting these films like lilo & stitch and Atlantis and the emperor’s new groove and treasure planet and they were so fun and DIFFERENT. Just thinking about what the pitches for those movies had to have been like is so surreal?? A little blue criminal alien crash lands on a Hawaiian island and gets adopted by two sisters dealing with social services that teach him about the value of family. An Inca emperor gets turned into a llama and john goodman helps him get back to his palace and one of the bad guys talks to squirrels. Treasure island but in SPACE. Like, on the surface, the premise for these films seem so random but they all TOTALLY WORKED IN REALLY GREAT WAYS??? idk I just really miss that early 2000s spark of offbeat creativity in Disney’s timeline.

I really love Nani and Lilo's sister relationship too

Quote:
& treasure planet was surreal in that its main relationship was between a teenager whose dad abandoned him and a pirate outlaw who acted as a father figure to him??? romance is great and all but it’s really nice that most of lilo and stitch’s, emporer’s new groove’s, and treasure planet’s stories all revolved around platonic relationships and they just were so pure and refreshing???

people are giving me flak about me shipping these 2 after I re-blogged this post and said that I ship them whether or not I meant romantically or just platonically lol people need to seriously chill

I wasn't saying the animation itself was getting worse per say, just that the movies themselves didn't exactly have the same impact that the 90's movies had and in my opinion, just weren't as good (with the exception of Lilo & Stitch, though I do enjoy Brother Bear).

You can ship platonic as well as romantic ships. Don't know why people are giving you grief over that. Just ignore them. I think Lilo & Stitch have a very sweet platonic relationship.

I remember crying watching that scene in theaters

just finished re-watching the sequel and crying my eyes out

Dakota Fanning does a great job voicing Lilo in the sequel but I think I would’ve been even more emotional if it was still Daveigh Chase

I've not seen the sequel. It just doesn't look like it holds up to the first one.

it’s actually pretty good for a direct to home video sequel

I would recommend it
