Disney On Broadway - Appreciation Thread

This group is for anyone who has seen, or really wants to see all or any of the Disney Shows on Broadway!
Feel free to post pictures and/or thoughts on shows you have seen, but keep in mind that not everyone has seen them so remember to include spoiler tags if you talk about something that might spoil the show!

The breathtaking costumes, amazing sets and spectacular musical performances bring these classic stories to life on stage in a way only Disney could!

Disney Broadway Shows:
* Beauty and the Beast (April 1994- July 29, 2007)
* The Lion King (November 1997)
* Aida (March 2000- September 2004)
* Tarzan (March 2006- July 8,2007)
* Mary Poppins (November 2006)
* The Little Mermaid (January 10, 2008)

Trivia/ Facts:
* Ashley Brown, currently cast as Mary Poppins, made her Broadway debut as Belle in Beauty and the Beast in 2005
* Beauty and the Beast received nine Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical, but won only for Ann Hould-Ward's costume design
* The Lion King was the winner of six 1998 Tony Awards, including Best New Musical
* Beauty and the Beast is currently #6 on the Top 10 Longest Running Broadway Shows of all Time
* After 13 years on Broadway, Beauty and the Beast will end its run on July 29 to make way for The Little Mermaid. The long-running musical will have played 46 previews and 5,464 regular performances.
* Josh Strickland, currently cast as Tarzan, was a semifinalist on American Idol's Season 2

News:
* Tarzan ran its last show on July 8th after being on Broadway for little over a year. This news came as a shock to both fans and the cast when it was announced in late June. Disney reps claim that ticket sales were not holding up, but fans speculate that the show closed due to the fact that The Little Mermaid is very over budget. Tarzan is currently running in the Netherlands and Disney claims that there is interest in the show in other markets.
Tarzan played 35 preview and 486 regular performances during its run.

* Fans might still have a chance to see a revamped stage version of Tarzan. A new stage production will debut in January 2009 at Atlanta's Theater of the Stars before playing several other theaters including, American Musical Theatre of San Jose, CA, at the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts (February); North Carolina Theatre in Raleigh, NC, at the Progress Energy Center (March); and Dallas Summer Musicals in Dallas, TX, at the Music Hall at Fair Park (April).

The only one I've seen is The Lion King and it was a masterpiece! Me and my two sisters wanted to go and we drug my brother-in-law along with us to rive. He didn't want to go, but the moment the Circle of Life started and the animals began coming out he was as excited and in awe as we were!

I have seen twice "The Beauty and the Beast" Broadway version here in Mexico, once when I was 8 years old, and now that I'm 18, and I really love it. The costumes are amazing, Lumiere and everyone... the music.... everything is perfect!!!!

And this month the Lion King were here too, and of course I didn't miss the chance to saw it. I have no words to describe how awesome is everthing... once again the costumes are superb, and the acting incredible!!! I love how they managed to made the scene when Mufasa died, so creative people involve there.

So this is my own experience with the Broadway musicals of my two all-time favourite animated movies from Disney

The Lion King was my very first Broadway show. I cried a little during the opening scene of The Circle of Life and the giraffes came out. I also just love 'He Lives In You', both of my parents lost their fathers and this song was one that everyone in my family could really relate to.

I saw one of the last showings of Beauty and the Beast and I'm go glad that I did. I thought that Beauty and the Beast was better then The Lion King yet! The set was amazing and I loved the comedy thrown in. I love how they added so much depth to the beast and Belle. I cried when the beast sang 'If I can't love her' and again when I first saw Belle in the yellow gown.

I never saw Tarzan, but I really wanted to! I have the soundtrack (which is significantly shorter then the other two!) and I love the songs!

Mary Poppins and The Little Mermaid are next on my list to see! I'm thinking that I'll see Mary Poppins next because I've heard that The Little Mermaid has some kinks to the show that still needs to be worked out yet.

Did anyone see Aida? I'm sad I missed this one too.

Hey,

I've always loved Disney musicals (I saw Lion King when I was 10), but every time I ask my mom to take me to NYC I'm told its too expensive. Last week my friend showed me a discount to Marry Poppins on this website which I showed my mom and nows she going to take me. Is it any good?

Here is this discount I found to Marry Poppins: Mary Poppins Tickets - Broadway musical discount Hope it will help you like it helped me!

Thanks for the advice!
