I'm actually not sure it sounds all that good. I hope it is, I have an idea I'll miss seeing him on tv. Thanks for bringing it over, though.
Sometimes when I read descriptions of shows in development I think, "Damn, they have run out of stories to tell." It sounds like it'll be cooky and maybe funny, but IDK how long it can last. Then again, I said the same thing about Lost.

I'm glad the Yankees are winning, but I have to admit I feel bad for Phillies fans. Actually as a non-invested non-fan I'd love to see it go to 7 games just for the excitement, but for you guys I hope the Yankees keep ahead and win.
Phillie fans are mean, so I can't feel bad for them.

Basically, the cars in front of me stopped short and like a big idiot I rear-ended the car minivan in front of me. Their car was fine--just a few bumper scratches-- my little car had the hood smooshed in. And my car is, like, ancient. So, basically it's totaled.
But you're okay which is good considering your car got damaged.

Anyone watch the updated version of V that premiered on Tuesday night? I was a fan of the original, so I was really curious about this remake. I am disappointed, of course, but most people who never saw the original seem to like it quite a bit.

I never saw the original, but I did see V on Tues and I liked it. The Pilot went by quickly. But I think there's a lot of story to tell and I can't wait for the sh-- to hit the fan.

Rach, better the car than you. Sucks that you have to buy a new one but don't feel dumb. It's the person in front of you who is dumb and stopped short.

Didn't watch V. Internet has taken over my life. I watch so few shows now.

for the Yankees! 27 times!

They are, aren't they?! I never realized how mean they can be until recently.

It's probably better if you have no knowledge of the original. Because when I watched the pilot, all I saw was what they did wrong instead of what they did right!

The internet has taken over most of my life, too, but I still carve out a bit of time for the old tube. Or, I watch TV on the internet-- that works, too.

But there aren't nearly as many good shows to choose from as there used to be. There is a drought, I think.

V doesn't appeal to me. "They" (unnamed people, that is) call this the second golden age on television, but I could care less about most shows. I watch a lot of tv for filler.

I've never seen Lost. But I get the sentiment.

They hate all of NY. NY fans were nowhere near as mean. I'm not being biased, but NY fans are truly the best.

what were the main differences that pissed you off?

Lost makes my brain want to explode. I love sci-fi shows with ridiculous premises. do you usually stay away from sci-fi?

I really don't miss TV because like Rachel said:

I think I already watch the best shows on TV. The ones worth taking time off the computer for.

Not really, the premise just needs to really call to me, or someone has to go "see? This is why I love this show". Like I kept hearing about DW, but I was all "ew, sci-fi" but finally tried it and fell in love, and since then I've been more receptive to science fiction, but it needs to be cracky.

I really don't think people give sci-fi enough credit. I find the more interesting premises are ones with a bit of fantasy or sci-fi in it rather than stories that are strictly dramas or comedies. Sci-fi can touch on important issues.

I am a huge scifi fan, but only if it's smart scifi. I have found that scifi can offer some of the most compelling landscapes for high drama as well as comedic moments. If it's done right, it's usually quite relevant to societal and emotional issues. For example, Battlestar Galactica (reimagined series, of course) is one of the most amazingly relevant post-9/11 shows I have ever watched. It can make you laugh and cry, as well as keep you on the edge of your seat in suspense. I would dare anyone to give the miniseries a try and not continue to watch after that point.

Then again, there's a lot of bad/cheesy scifi that I would never watch. You just have to find the good ones that are worth checking out.

I had two major problems with the V pilot:

1.) It was too rushed. The original miniseries took 2+ hours to lay out all the information that is thrown at you during the 1 hour pilot of the new series. And the "big reveal" about the true nature of the visitors is squandered on a couple lines of dialogue. In the original, the reveal was quite freaky because you see it before you hear about it.

2.) V stands for Visitors, which is so wrong. In the original the V was a symbol used by the human rebellion against the visitors. It stood for victory and it was a symbol of hope for humankind. Now the visitors are called "Vs" which is totally missing the point of what the title is supposed to stand for.

I could go on and be even more nitpicky, but those are my two main issues that I really can't get over.

I'm so happy there's another BSG fan around. That was a good show and I like the topics they covered - esp in the early seasons.

The 2 reasons you give are the same reasons I've heard other fans of the original give for the new series being a disappointment. I do think seeing the reveal would've been a lot better than hearing about it. I like creepy stuff, so that would've been fun to see come undone. But then again, I guess the producers didn't want it to be an exact copy?

The first 2 seasons are nothing short of amazing. I loved that show so much! I can't wait for Caprica to start next year. I've already seen the pilot and thought it was pretty impressive.

Well, like I said, those are the two main things that bother me, so it doesn't surprise me that other fans of the original would feel the same way. Especially about the V for Victory thing-- that makes my head want to explode!

I understand that they needed to make it different than the original and put a modern spin, but I still wish they had kept the same feel as the original. I could accept the whole Visitors as terrorists thing (in the original it was visitors as Nazis), but it kind of feels like the producers' attempt to make the show more like BSG-- by having the cylon-effect-- anyone can be a visitor and you may not even know. In the original, there was no mistaking the aliens--they had strange voices that dictated they were not human.

I just hope the remake of Alien Nation isn't a disappointment as well, because that was another show with a wonderful concept that could be really compelling!

Heck first episodes I saw was the season 1 finale and I was hooked then. When I was in the middle of season 2 I caught up on the miniseries and season 1.

Janet, you've now got three people championing BSG. You might have to add it your list of SciFi shows that are worth checking out. (Too bad it's no longer on the air).

Totally nervous, but hopeful that they will do it justice. I think that instead of being 20 years after the crash, it is going to be 40 years after the crash. And, supposedly, we might get some of the same characters. But, I don't know how true that is, or even if that is a good idea.

I started watching it a couple of years ago, all on dvd. I only got to watch season 4.5 while it actually aired. I was sad when I ran out of episodes to watch. However, I think it was better off ending when it did, since it was starting to wind down during the last season-- as if they didn't know where else to go with the story. Caprica will be interesting, because we'll get to witness the "birth" of the cylons and everything that happened pre-war.

Alien Nation is going to be a movie or tv show?

I kind of like that V is saying anyone can be a visitor because that amps up the paranoia.

It's interesting watching the history of cylons. Like how they started believing in one God.
