Yes, I did watch it alone.
So...it was an okay movie, I guess...not especially memorable, but not unwatchable. Ewan's character was my favourite thing about it. Plus, he was rockin' the glasses again. I think I'll have more to say about the film later...I might rewatch some bits first and see what the bonus material on the DVD is like. __________________

The movie ended with Jonathan and 'S' walking toward each other in a plaza somewhere in Europe, I think...we never find out if they meet up or just keep going their separate ways. I think there's an alternate ending or something on the DVD, so I'll check that out soon.
Yes, Hugh did a good job going from the almost-too-friendly buddy to the all-out criminal mastermind. __________________

oh okay. So the "happy Hollywood" ending is what was kept.
I think I liked the alternate ending because it was more realistic. Anyone want to know what S stood for? poor Jonathan. No one really wanted to be his friend. __________________

I watched the alternate ending...it's just Jonathan walking out into the plaza, amidst the people and the pigeons...in Madrid, I think it was. It was interesting how Jonathan was always the observer, looking at other people/couples being happy...he didn't really let himself go there, until he met 'S.' I liked a lot of the shots that were done in the movie. They gave the film quite a sophisticated look, with a lot of glass, reflections, lights in various buildings. Also, the wardrobe really added to the look of the film since there was hardly any vivid colour...mostly grey, black, and white. So, the "hotcakes at the end" didn't appear in the version that I saw? __________________

^ I like how you're looking past the story and seeing how other parts of the movie can be praised: like costume, lighting etc. They're parts of the movie people hardly pay attention to and people don't realize how much work goes into the non-acting parts. And when they're bad, well that's when people notice.
Hot cakes appears in both versions, I think. Because he has his glasses off and a different hairstyle in both endings. __________________

Thanks. I just liked how the look of the film really fit the story...the anonymity, duality, and wealth of the characters.
Oooh, so now I understand what exaclty 'hotcakes' refers to...I had been expecting a scene with pancakes, or...a scene involving a lack of clothing. Silly me. Ewan looked amazing in that brown leather jacket with his hair all tousled up a bit in the last scene. Great contrast with how we initially met him at the beginning of the film. __________________

@ expecting pancakes.
He really did make a turn around. And I think learned not to be so gullible. |

Yes, I agree...like when that blonde woman in the office, walking past him, gave him the 'I'm interested in you' look but kept on walking. If she wasn't working, she would've flocked to him, for sure.
