Probably. If he had been honest he would never have been arrested. But he managed to get a great job with a boss that liked him through lying. He clearly wouldn't have been fired, he just got greedy. And he was making $85,000 a year without the embezzling. That's nothing to sneer at. If he had "stopped while he was ahead," so to speak, he definitely would have been better off. He could have lied his way into that job and just lived off his salary. He and Phillip would still be together and well off. It's sad to think of.

They changed the ways in which he was caught. In rl he was caught embezzling when he went to refinance their home for a lower interest rate. The bank couldn't figure out where all his money was coming from, so they dug deeper and realized what was going on. In the film his bitter co-worker found him out.

Also they didn't show the fugitive hunter who caught Stephen every single time he escaped. He was the first person to realize that Stephen wasn't really dead, and without him he may have never been caught.

I just wasn't sure how comfortable he would be with the gay romance. He's not a homophobe or anything, but he's still a 60-year-old man who didn't grow up with that kind of outward affection between homosexuals. But it didn't bother him at all, I was really proud.

I'd be perfectly content with 85K. That can go a long way.
But you know, for all the wrong he did, he got the right punishment. He could've been happy with Phil, but he screwed up and has to deal with the consequences.

I've never seen that movie, but I want to.

He definitely deserves prison time, but I'm not convinced he deserves a 140 year sentence in solitary confinement with only an hour of exercise a day.

Yea, it doesn't seem psychologically or physically healthy to me. I would categorize this as cruel and unusual punishment.

Either in the episode I recently watched or that article I posted it said Stephen had a stack of newspapers to his ceiling.

In theory that is supposed to happen. But I think because he ruined his rep by escaping that they don't trust him and thus have put him solitary.

Except he seems rehabilitated now. He's contrite about his crimes. But a liar, especially a good one like Stephen, could make himself seem rehabilitated and not be.

I think what's really going on is that he embarrassed the Texas prison system and now they're making an example out of him. It's revenge.
