Ewan's Fans' picture thread #1: Smile, you're on Ewan camera!

We never had one of these threads so I though I'd start one for fans of Ewan to share pics of themselves.

I'll start with some: Here are Vic and I on our vacation.

Ok so I'll begin posting pics:

On my way to JFK.

The flight was at 6pm. We finally took off at 7.

We flew on British Airways, a direct flight to Southampton, England.
On the flight I was watching some of Angels and Demons but whenever a graphic scene came on I switched to watch Star Trek. I also watched an episode of Friends (season 8 when Monica hosts a Halloween party.

Ohoh and the in flight magazine had a little blurb on Ewan McGregor.*squee*

We landed at 6am at Gatwick. It 51 degrees Fahrenheit and I could see my breath when I exhaled. Yea, a chilly morning.
Our travel agent set up for a driver to pick us up and take us to our hotel.

The drive to Southampton was lovely. Took about an hour and a half. There was such a pretty mist (fog?) over the grasslands. And it was a bit strange being on the left side of the road. LOL.

Right, ok so we find a Holiday Inn but it's not the Holiday Inn Express we are staying at. After about another 1/2 hour Ray gets us to the Holiday Inn Express fine but here is where I explain the mix up with the travel agent we had a few weeks back.

We had wanted to stay in London the day before the cruise. On the invoice it said "London pre-cruise." When my mom checks the site a few weeks before we leave it says "London post-cruise." Along the way of planning this vacation our travel agent, Cliff, left with no explanation why and someone else took over. My mom can't remember or doesn't know who made the mistake but she called up the new guy, Neil, and told him we wanted London before the cruise, not after.
Yada, yada....we are told London is only a post-cruise option. So we decided to stay in Southampton pre-cruise, which is where the ship leaves from.

So we research things to do in Southampton. I had really wanted to see the Tudor House Museum and Garden, but unfortunately it's closed for restoration till summer 2011!! ARGHHH. Gives me a reason to go back someday. So we decided to see the Osborne House, which was once home to Queen Victoria.

After waiting an hour to check in we took a much needed nap. I had the worst headache and that rest cleared it right up. Then we decide to find out about what there is to see near by.

Not much. I wish we had stayed at that other Holiday Inn, the one Ray took us to first that ended up not being the right one. From what I can tell from the map I got at our hotel the other HI was in central Southampton with lots of things near by (including the closed Tudor House as well as the Mayflower Memorial). Our Holiday Inn Express was so out of the way. We don't know the bus routes or how to get around and taxis in England charge an arm and a leg.

So we just go for a little walk. There was a tennis club. We walked over a highway. And then found a shopping center, but I can see KFC and Burger King at home so we turned around.
Sat outside a bit. Read a paper. Then we had dinner at the hotel.

Yay for this thread! Great idea, girls!

Steph, I love the pics so far That's a lot of luggage with you

And too bad you couldn't see the Tudor House Museum and Garden, I guess there has to be always some unexpected inconvenience in every trip, lol...but that's definitely one more reason to come back

Looking forward to read the rest of your traveling journal

Rachel, you're so pretty! And your dog looks adorable What's its name?

Aw, your last pics is so beautiful! Your photographer really knows how to capture a romantic moment

Thanks for sharing Rach. It's so cool that you got to see the Roswell rocks. Did you feel like getting some silver paint and tracing your hand?

Aw, the engagement photo is lovely. I love the "old" feel to it and how no one is in the photo.

Thanks, Caris. You're so sweet. My dog's name is Duet. We didn't name her that, she came with that name when we adopted her. She likes to cuddle.

Thanks, girls. Our photographer was really talented. The photographer used some cool effects to give it the vintage-look, and I think that works really well with our surroundings. That is definitely my favorite pic from all the photos we took that day.

haha. No, I left my silver paint at home. But, the rocks are totally awesome! We have gone hiking there on a number of occasions, but we had never taken any good photos. This past weekend I finally twisted the fiance's arm into getting out his camera gear and taking some cool shots. Here is one more, from a more recognizable angle.

Continuing

September 26. Day 1
First sight of the ship, the Independence of the Seas

Ship Facts
Passenger Capacity: 3,634 double occupancy
Gross Tonnage: 160,000
Length: 1,112'
Max Beam: 184'
Draft: 28'
Cruising Speed: 21.6 knots

our cabin

art work on the ship - deck 9

After checking out the cabin we wanted to first see the Royal Promenade, which is basically like a shopping mall. It's got stores, a pizza place, Seattle's Best Coffee, Ben & Jerry's, a barber shop, a bar called The Dog and Badger. Also the Guest Realations is there.
Various angles of the Royal Promenade.

The windows you see are cabins. Yes, you can get a cabin that looks into the Royal Promenade. We didn't have one of those cabins.

it wouldn't let me do it all in one post so part 2

Then we went for a snack at the Windjammer. My mom took this pic of my dad's wine with her Nikon. I love how it came out:

The Casino Royal:

There is a skating rink on board. It was closed this day but outside there are these pretty sketches of the costumes the skating performers wear. They put on two ice shows.

Also outside of the skating rink is a Karaoke stage and the walls had all these famous quotes. Well this one made the ship especially awesome:

On deck as we set sail: The pools with those large colorful figures is called the H2O Zone. Very cool playground like pool area for the kids.

Last one of Day 1. My dinner. Salmon. Yum.

DAMN Steph. You have stamina to write all that.

Rach - love the Roswell rocks. I'd go there and act out a few scenes. Yes, I'm a dork.

Wow, girls. That ship is very impressive. I've never been on a cruise, so I am totally living vicariously through Steph's journal right now. That Royal Promenade looks out-of-this-world. Literally, I could imagine that on a spaceship or something. Can't believe all the stuff they can pack onto a cruise-ship.

Thank you. Duet is a 6 1/2 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Sweetest breed I've ever encountered. But also kind of lazy.

That's not dorky. I'm sure a lot of fans have done that. Especially since those rocks have been used for a ton of stuff, including Buffy and the original Star Trek series. Imagine what the Trekkies do when they go out there!

Really? I had no idea Star Trek and Buffy used them. I guess all of Hollywood knows of them. Even though ST and Buffy used them first, I feel like they stole the rocks from Roswell.

And the next ship coming out will have zip line! I want to go on it for that alone.

All of Hollywood does know about them and they are used constantly. I couldn't even begin to list all the TV shows, movies and commercials that have been shot there.

I don't think any show used the rocks as much as Roswell, though. They weren't used that way on Buffy, so you'd never recognize them as the "Roswell rocks" if you were watching episodes of Buffy.

That sounds like so much fun! I need to go on a cruise.
