Ewan McGregor is the latest feature actor to topline an installment of FX’s Emmy-winning anthology series Fargo. McGregor will play the two central characters — brothers Emmit and Ray Stussy — in the upcoming third season, which is supposed to be set closer to present day than the first two installments.

Emmit Stussy is the Parking Lot King of Minnesota. A handsome, self-made, real estate mogul and family man, he sees himself as an American success story. His slightly younger brother, on the other hand, is more of a cautionary tale. Balding and pot-bellied, Ray is the kind of guy who peaked in high school. Now a parole officer, he has a huge chip on his shoulder about the hand he’s been dealt, and he blames Emmit for his misfortunes.

McGregor is the first actor cast in the third installment of Fargo, which tentatively is scheduled to begin production later this year for premiere on FX in 2017.

Will you be watching the previous two seasons of Fargo or just start at season three?

I heard really good things about s2, so ideally I'd want to watch that one. But realistically I'll probably only end up watching Ewan's season. I don't know how connected each season is and how necessary it is to watch all 3.

Fargo is one of my favorite shows and I'm glad Ewan is cast and playing dual roles too. I'm already impressed.

I don't think you need to watch the first two seasons and you can go ahead and just watch S3.

I've been waiting for Ewan to play dual roles for so long. He was supposed to be in a movie years ago where he was playing 4 people but that never got off the ground.

I'm going to check if Fargo is available for streaming on Netflix.
