hmm, that's a tough question. I think MR is sadder because the couple spent more time together and was more developed. In MP, the romance is very quick.

And in MR, Ewan lets out this huge cry that gets to the audience, but there is no huge wail in MP.

And so far I think nothing have made me cry more in a movie than Christian holding dead Satine in his arms

Every person is different.
It took me a few years to cry at MR and only one viewing to cry at MP.
