He surprised us at the sneak peek screening of the Hobbit a month before it was released. I twas a media event and he came to introduce the film.

I loved the scene, where Thorin told Bilbo that he was never more wrong in his life when he said that Bilbo doesn't belong there... something along those lines. can't recall the exact quote...

Yes, I think he hugged him... that was the closing scene of the 1st Hobbit movie...
... It's a pity that Thorin went slightly mad by the end of the 3rd movie - but it was done in a way close to how it's told in the original novel... __________________

It was true to the character. It wasn't fun to watch when you had invested in his character by that point though.

Oh yes, that's straight from the book.

Yep
Only the addition of Azog to the mix was sort of an invention, but yes, the dragon's gold & the desire for the Arkenstone made him mad in the book as well... ... But I liked the additional information we got in the films taken from the lotr appendices & untold stories, as the Hobbit book is quite a short one... around 250 pages __________________

There isn't much at all, that's true!
The last film is like a few pages of the book. __________________

That's a great one, although his story is so tragic.

Thorin was a true hero, and he died as one.
he was able to overcome the madness of ancestors caused by one of the rings, and by the Arkenstone - he did as a king and even was able to make peace with Bilbo before dying. __________________
