Star Trek Into Darkness star Benedict Cumberbatch was a little upset with a recent description of his role in the Hobbit movies, revealing that he "worked his a** off to create the character".

The British star is behind Smaug, the dragon in upcoming Hobbit sequel, and when he read that he was just 'the voice', he thought this was a little unjust.

Benedict also invested hours of his work using motion-capture technology to bring his dragon to life, similar to the effects used by Andy Serkis for Gollum. In The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Benedict takes on the gold-hoarding dragon and ruler The Necromancer but as an animated character although his body movements are portrayed on screen.

In an interview with New York Magazine, Benedict insists that he doesn't just deliver lines in a studio but that he fully embraced the role.

"It was publicised that I 'voice' Smaug, and I thought, '******ing hell. My voice, my motions - I worked my a** off to create that dragon!'" he told the magazine.

The Desolation of Smaug, Peter Jackson's second installement of The Hobbit Trilogy is set to hit the cinemas in December. And we can't wait.

That said, I can understand that he'd be upset if his work on the movie is just reduced to simple voice work.

Yep, but that is in part responsibility of the company, from the moment they announced his cast they should have specified in what, i don't mean spoiling all around his characters, he was already introduced as Smaug and The Necromancer but saying as voice voice and mocap wouldn't have hurt anyone, now he will have to keep repeating the same over and over during the press tours :/
