LOTR Merchandise thread #4: coz too much merch is never enough!

OK, so as I was drooling at the end of the last thread. I damn near cried when I saw they were gonna make a replica of Eowyn's sword. I want it soooooo bad!!!

I'll probably only be able to afford it, (as well as my Anduril replica) in my dreams though.

Me too, but I can't seem to find an appropriate place to put a sword

ETA: Is it too psychotic that I'm thinking of buying another Evenstar just in case something happens to the one I have?

There's a nice little spot on the wall behind our computer that could accomodate a couple of swords.

Oh man, I just thought of something...that LotR exhibit is opening in Sydney soon. Wonder if they'll have the replica swords for sale there?

Suga*Babe, not psychotic at all IMO. A sane, non-LotR-obsessed person might think differently, but there aren't any of them here, so I say go for it!

I want quite a few of the jewellery items, too. Such as...

and

But if I got one of the Elvish Rings, I'd have to get the other 2, as well, and that'd add up.

I have two Evenstars btw. One of them is the real thing and the other is a fake. Both were given as presents!

When I went to the exhibit here before TTT, they didn't have any swords on sale but they costumes!

Ah well, it'll probably be for the best if they don't have swords on sale, because if I actually had the chance to hold one, it'd just make me want it even more.

They had a con here and had swords for sale. I was tempted to feel one but stopped myself knowing I could not be able to afford one at the time!

If I got the chance to hold one, I'd probably stand there stunned for a few moments, then slowly turn to hubby with puppy dog eyes that plead, "I know we can't really afford it, but pleeeease can we get it anyway?"

I mean, when we went to the Star Wars exhibit in Sydney, we ended up walking outta there with one of those huge Lego Rebel Blockade Runners, coz he saw it, and it was on special, so he had to have it even though it was still a couple hundred bucks. So fair is fair, wouldn't you say?

Wow, he spent a couple of hundreds on that? I am even having a hard time imagining spending a couple of hundreds on a darn sword right now!

Yeah, but even I have to admit that it's pretty cool. And it's pretty big, too. Takes up the whole top shelf of one of our bookcases. He's also got the big X-Wing, which cost just over $100 I think, (found that one on special, too).

What he really wants is the Star Destroyer, which has over 3000 pieces, and costs $570. He's resigned himself to the fact that he won't be owning that one anytime soon. I bought him a mini Lego Star Destroyer instead.

We're really just a couple of film geeks. With him it's SW, with me it's LotR, and we've both spent hundreds on our obsessions, (the NZ trip was essentially an excuse for me to complete my transition into LotR fangirldom, afterall...I still get all giggly when I look at the photos). Of course, it would be nice if we had obsessions which weren't as financially demanding, but what are you gonna do?

I was into Star Wars as a kid and sometimes I'm still into it when I feel like it. It's the same as the LOTR cult, it's pretty expensive!

Good thing that when I got sucked into the Bridget Jones fandom, it's not as costly.

Wow! I'm loving Eowyn's sword...I wish I could afford something impractical like that. I'm serious, if I were a millionaire, my entire home would be covered with sword replicas and those great little statues on SideshowWeta.com. I also really would like to have Nenya...but top of my list right now is this:

Phial of Galdriel

I think it'd be a great conversation piece.

"What the hell is that?"
"Duh, it's the light of Earendil, our most beloved star!"
*blank look from questioner*

Jazz, I'm only ocassionally SW obsessed, too. Like when hubby downloaded that teaser trailer for Ep3 a few weeks back, I was drooling over how evil Anakin looked. But with hubby it's a 24/7 obsession which started when he was a kid and will last until the day he dies.

Angela, you and me both! I'd have whole rooms full of stuff. In my dream house I have a whole wall full of swords, banners hanging as curtains, and a big map of Middle-earth painted on the ceiling. *sigh* One day, maybe. The map is definitely gonna happen one day, though. I've decided I'm gonna paint it on a huge canvas, and then rip the edges up so they look ratty and old, and then I'm gonna have it mounted on the ceiling.

I love the hilts of the Rohirric swords. I think it's so cool how they've got the horse heads on each side.

Oh, and I could so imagine that Phial of Galadriel conversation.
"When she gave it to Frodo she said it'd be a light for him in dark places, when all other lights go out. Then, when he's stuck in Shelob's lair, about to get eaten, he whips out the phial and shouts in Elvish, and the phial glows bright white and it scares Shelob off."
And I'd be saying it all with a totally straight face, too, completely serious.

A couple weeks back I was in a bookstore, seeing if they had the revised, coffeetable book version of the LotR Locations Guidebook, and I was looking at all the Tolkien books in the SciFi section. Hubby commented that LotR didn't really fit under "SciFi", and I agreed.....I said it really belonged in the history section.

Have you guys heard about the 9 disk soundtrack box set? I think it's coming out next year sometime. I haven't bought any of the soundtracks so far, but this would be a must have.

I watched the trailer about 20 times that night...a few times in slo-mo to make sure I didn't miss anything. I'm still hoping for a scandaleous Obi-Wan/Padme romance but I doubt it'll happen.

Sounds incredible! Be sure to take lots of photos once that project is completed.

Totally agreed. PJ filmed the movies as if they were history, anyway...which, obviously, they are. I don't need to tell myself that too much or I might really start believing it and then they'll throw me in the loony bin for sure!

OMG, are you serious?! Howard Shore is my hero! I just absolutely adore the soundtracks. I listen to them and they make me cry like a little girl...that's how moved I am. Nine disks?! I would be in heaven. Wow, I can't wait... *runs off to research this*

Yeah, dunno that you'll get your wish. It was actually really funny when hubby first downloaded it. He was in here on the computer and all of a sudden I hear these moaning, "Ooooohhh, my GOD!" sounds and I was like, "WTF is he looking at?" Then I heard the SW music, and it all became clear.

Oh don't you worry, I will. Still gotta buy a house first though.

Perhaps we could share a padded cell?

Here's an article about it...

Chord Of The Rings!

Exclusive: LOTR Soundtracks to get ‘Extended’ Editions Box Set
30 April 2004

As any fule no, the fantabulous four-disc extended edition of The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King will debut later this year. But for those of you doing decent Gollum impressions – "we wanttsss it!" – Empire can exclusively reveal that one more superb LOTR extra is on its way, ready to sate those Rings withdrawal symptoms.

Howard Shore's Oscar-winning scores for the three movies, easily ranking amongst the very best soundtracks of recent times, has up until now only been granted a single CD release for each film. Now, Empire is no Carol Vorderman, but we calculate that that means that more than six hours of the score [more than eight if you factor in the Extended Editions] remains unreleased.

Well, that's going to change next year, when Shore plans to release a suitably epic nine-disc set of his most famous work. And, just as the two-disc DVDs pale in comparison to the Extended Editions, so too will the CDs.

“The plan is that we would feature all of the music in the theatrical cuts of the films," said Shore, talking exclusively to Empire. "Currently, two discs for [the first], three each for [the second and third films] and a ninth disc of rarities with host of rare, unreleased music from the films with commentary from me.”

The DVD would also feature material covering Shore’s recent transfer of the trilogy’s music to a live concert setting, The Lord Of The Rings Symphony. “The DVD would also potentially have a 45-minute documentary which we shot on the making of the Symphony and full performance of it done with the Montreal Symphony," he added.

First performed in Wellington in November last year, Shore is currently on an international tour with the show, reaching London for a performance with The London Philharmonic Orchestra at The Royal Festival Hall on 23 May and then returning to The Royal Albert Hall on 22 September.

“It’s very gratifying to see the see the music from [the films] find a new life on the concert stage.” said Shore. “I don’t think there’s ever been a full concert piece of this size devoted to one particular film or series.”

For those fans who miss out on the London shows, don't fret: Shore also confirmed to Empire that a two-disc CD release of the show is also in the works for release next year.
