[Episode Discussion] 5x14 - "The Bodyguard" March 8th 2020
 

· Soooo… Leviathan is a techno-organic species? (kinda like Brainy?) How do they know this?

· I love that Brainy can call upon the OTHER Brainys when he needs advice

· Looks like Non Nocere can’t fix someone’s inner demons. It just traps them instead. Poor Steve.

· Why couldn’t Brainy hack the Obsidian computers?

· I always do like when Kara is able to talk a bad guy down.

· Kara (to William): You’re a great guy. More than a great guy
Me: Oh, he’s going to turn out to be evil, isn’t he?

· Brainy looks really pissed at Lex for putting all those people in danger. Now it’s time for Brainy accept all his newfound intelligence and outsmart him.

· I guess Andrea remembered she was Acrata again.

While I enjoyed this episode, it frustrated me on many levels.
I enjoyed the stuff with Lena and Steve. I just know that Lex plans to use Lena's tech to neutralize his enemies when he gets the chance.
I wish that someone (maybe Brainy) would explain to Lena that taking away all aggression from people can prevent them from defending themselves from alien attacks or from beings that are not affected by her tech. There are other aliens out there that will have different brains & what works on humans might not work on Coluans or other types of creatures.

It was nice to see Nia for all of 3 seconds before William butted in. Good grief, I was watching those scenes with Kara & cringing. I was saying "No! Don't fall for it! Ugh!" I wanted to fastfroward because it was painful to watch. I would really rather they spend more time with Nia or Kelly or even Steve. I don't think William is a horrible person, but there is zero chemistry & the alleged attraction is too forced. I really wish they would skip the whole romance thing. I'm hoping he'll get reassigned or move on. He may end up being turned evil and/or dying. I really don't want another season of the guy. No offense meant to the actor, but the writing for him is not good.

At least it looks like Nia might get more than 3 seconds next episode. I hope Brainy will get to react to someone harassing her.

I liked Brainy talking to the other version of himself. Loved the glasses & the jacket, but poor Brainy didn't seem comforted. He needed someone with more sympathy/empathy.

I'm really tired of Brainy playing second fiddle to Lex. He should be a better hacker than Felicity & Cisco combined at this point. He should have been able to override Lex's code. Hell, he should be able to use the Toyman code for himself to infiltrate Leviathan. He's got the knowledge of two other Brainys, he is no longer inhibited, & he should be more than familiar with the tech & coding of that era. It is really driving me batty that someone with a 12 level intellect is being portrayed as so dumb. I don't care how chaotic Lex is, Brainy should still be able to outsmart him. I'm really hoping he's secretly ahead of Lex but only pretending he's not.

I wonder if Kara would have reacted differently if Brainy had been the one to ask her to guard Andrea instead of Lex ordering her. But Lex wanted to see her squirm.

The villain of the week had an interesting story-- although I'm still disappointed that Brainy didn't get in to the computer system but it's Supergirl's show so they had to give her the win.

Hoping in the future that Brainy outsmarts Lex & takes him & Leviathan down though.

I hope not.

This was the first time I heard the words "anti-tech extremists" together. If I have this straight, Todd Sapphire committed suicide & his wife blamed Obsidian for his death. Todd was also fired I think. Amy tried to save people from what happened to Todd happening to them. I wish that we would have gotten to see more of Todd, since episode had a large role for him, but not on-screen.
