Did you guys think that maybe Barbie's family is from Chester's Mill?

Well, we know that Barbie's dad makes an appearance, so maybe that is in the pipeline for next week. Maybe the dad is connected to Melanie. Maybe she's like a love child of Barbie's dad from a long time ago and it's like his half-sister or something. That's sounds really stupid, but I am at such a loss right now on the whole Melanie story.

They would be stealing from Lost if they went that route. The only difference is that it is a secret older sister instead of a younger one.

I can see that happening though if Barbie's dad was in the military. The military man travels a lot. Maybe Melanie's mother was from Chester's Mill and moved back there when she got pregnant. I have no idea about her. The only thing we can rule out is that she is Barbie's mother.


They could've made Melanie Andrea's daughter. Andrea Grinnell is so distraught about her daughters disappearance that she became a hoarder to numb the pain.

So what do you think about the Melanie reveal?

How is she connected to Barbie? Why do you think her family moved to Chester's Mill? Do you think the aliens have something to do with that? It seems like they are playing a game of chess and somehow is positioning everyone where they want them.

I think Melanie has a connection to Barbie, but I don't know about being his older, long-lost sister. I mean, he'd have seen pictures of her, right?
So he would've recognized her immediately? Yet, they only have a vague sense of familiarity.

But I do think the reason he's in CM is connected to her (or her disappearance) in some way.

See my post this morning at the S&S board. I tried to lay out the seeming connections as I see them right now. Always subject to amendment, of course.

Sherry, I agree with you about Barbie being somehow connected to Melanie but I doubt that she's his sister... But she seems to somehow know him and yes, considering that she died 25 years ago they could be the same age or at least close. Is Julia so much younger? Shouldn't she know Melanie as well? Or the story about her going missing then?

Kris, if Melanie died 25 year ago and was around 18 when she died, that would make her about 43 (the same age as Junior's mother Pauline, Sam and Lyle). I think Barbie is early-to-mid 30's, so Melanie would be 8-10 years older than him.

In the show, Julia isn't a native of Chester's Mill as she is in the book: she came there with her husband Peter, who grew up in CM (according to the show). Therefore, she wouldn't know anything about Melanie going missing 25 years before.

If it turns out that Melanie is Barbie's older sister, the show is gonna have to explain why he doesn't recognize her!
