Heath News/Media Discussion #1

I'm watching one of my fave shows, "The Daily 10" on E! Television and they're still inquiring on where Heath got the Oxycontin that killed him, and they just keep talking about the drugs he got etc, "Where did he get them? Where did he get them" meanwhile one day Mathilda is gonna grow up and some jerk is probably gonna show her the footage surrounding her dad's death, and I would hate to be in that situation, where I'm sure she will have heard all the good things about her dad, and eventually she may have to stumble on the negative aspects surrounding his death....

Let me just say that I wouldn't be surprised if Heath didn't get those Oxys through a perscription...I can buy them from many people on the street and I'm not famous...I've never bought them, but my friends who like to party a bit more than me have told me how easy they can get them, and how they crush them up and snort them....So if a nobody like me can score RX drugs on the streets, how easy do you think it would be for someone like Heath?

But must we keep inquiring? A man is dead, he left behind a young daughter who probably won't remember the cherished time spent with him. All she has are pictures of her father, kind words from friends and family, and the horrible way in which his death was splayed across the media for all to see and point at.

I really agree with you there. I'm really getting sick and tired of the media, papparazzi (sp?), and the tabloids. They really have no respect at all for anyone, and it just keeps getting worse and worse.

Like when they showed on tv his body being rolled out on a stretcher to the ambulance (well he was in a body bag), that should have never been shown. That is incredibly insensitive and exploitive. That made me angry to see that, I can't imagine what his family feels when they see something like that on tv. I know they have freedom of press and all that, but they don't seem to know where to draw the line anymore, all they care about is money. They don't care that they're being insensitive to the family, and not necessarily everyone actually wants to see that.

Also the constant bothering of his family, friends, and Michelle. They constantly say "So and so is still grieving the loss of Heath." Well no **it sherlock! And they flood the cameras around his friends and family and ask them stupid questions like 'How are you dealing with Heath's death?', have some common sense, how do you think they are feeling? They don't need a camera shoved in their face when they're still grieving a loved one.

This is why I don't buy tabloid magazines and don't watch many entertainment shows on television. Whenever I do watch something on television like that it's usually because my mom has it on (she likes that stuff), and if they say something offensive or something that I think is over-the-top I'll either leave the room or change the channel. I'm really sick and tired of them.

This was the same thing when Anna Nicole Smith died about a year or so ago and left behind her baby. They're STILL covering that stuff! It's incredibly insane. Leave the poor baby alone already! She's too young to be around all that crap, she's already lost her mom and brother, what more does she need to go through? It's the same for Matilda, she doesn't need papparizzi idiots flooding around her.

i agree that the media seems to take it too far quite a bit... his loved ones need time to grieve without television constantly throughing out negative conotations out about his death. what's important is that the world lost a talent, kind-hearted man way before his time who was loved by many, not what doctor he happened to get the medication from.

Mod posting

We decided to leave this thread open and change it to the News thread. Even tho he's gone, there'll still be news about him. But please keep posting memory type info in the Memorial thread.

As for this thread, please make sure there's no bashing of certain media stations and whatnot. Just please don't let the discussions get out of hand. We may not like how the media handles things...but there's nothing we can do about it except hope that one day they change

You can also post news about Heath's final performances here too. /end of mod post

And as for why the media is still bringing up his death, the DEA is investigating how he was prescribed all the medications at the same time. From what I read, it's standard because it was an accidental overdose of prescription medications. They want to make sure it doesn't happen again I guess.

And as for Matilda growing up and having this thrown in her face, I think Michelle and her family and Heath's family and Matilda's godparents will keep her safe from the crazyness. And I'm sure that some day, when Michelle feels it's time, she will probably let her daughter know what happened to the father that adore her above all else.

I think when Matilda is old enough to unerstand Michelle and the rest of her family will be completely honest with her about what happened. She'll be protected as she grows up and I have no doubt that she'll still love her father every day and she'll know how much he loved her.

I agree with you on that. Losing a parent is hard enough but when you can simply go online and find a million different news stories on it then it's tougher. I do believe that his family and friends and the people that Michelle will surround herself and Matilda with will ensure that Matilda is given the real story and she'll know exactly who her dad was.

kelly, heath's dad has released a statement regarding heath's will.

from people.com

Heath Ledger's Dad: Michelle & Matilda Rose 'Will Be Taken Care Of'
By Julie Jordan

Heath Ledger's family moved quickly to speak out Saturday after details of the late actor's will were released – showing he had not updated it since his relationship with Michelle Williams and the 2005 birth of their daughter Matilda Rose.

"Matilda is our absolute priority and Michelle is an integral part of our family," Heath's father Kim Ledger says in a statement. "They will be taken care of and that's how Heath would want it to be."

Ledger's will – filed in Australia in April 2003, before Williams and before his Oscar nomination for Brokeback Mountain – left everything he owned to his parents and sister, New York's Daily News reported Saturday. A series of documents filed in Manhattan Surrogate's Court revealed that the actor had less than $145,000 in New York assets at the time, including a $25,000 Toyota Prius and $20,000 in furniture and fixtures.

Ledger's rep quickly squashed any speculation that Williams and 2-year-old Matilda would not be provided for. "The story is getting taken out of context and media is speculating that this means Matilda and Michelle will not be taken care of. I want to make it very clear nothing could be farther from the truth."

i don't think heath intentionally forgot to update his will after matilda was born. i guess he just didn't think about it since he was so young. of course, heath's family will ensure that matilda and michelle have some part of heath's wealth since their his family.
