Well, it's January 22nd in my neck of the woods. The Oscar noms are being revealed at 2:30 pm CET. I won't see it live, but I'm taping BBC World's broadcast. Let's hope he nabs this well-deserved nomination for The Dark Knight. It will be a bittersweet, yet extremely deserving way of honoring him on this first anniversary of his passing.

Anyways, I was just fart-assing around over at IMDB & started to write my reply to a thread regarding where you where when you heard HL died. Anyways, I began writing my response & got on a bit of a role & wanted to share what I wrote in place that is a lot friendlier that IMDB:

Since Im from Australia, it was about 7.30-8.00am on the 23rd of Jan & I had literally just left for work, my 2nd week of a new job. I hadn't even gotten a km down the road...Alicia Keys 'No-One' was just finishing & the radio went really quite for a bit & when the announcers eventually spoke they were like 'we don't know if its true or not, but there are reports that Heath Ledger has been found dead'. I was shocked & i don't really know why, but I rang someone...my brother & told them.

The radio went to another song to try & get confirmation, but it took at least 30mins for it to come across as confirm. During that time though, one of the announcers, who's originally from Perth & is good friends with HL friends tried ringing them for confirmation (off-air), but because Perth is 2-3 hours behind the rest of Australia, this call was the first they had heard. Apparently that's how Heath's parents heard too...by the news. By the time I reached work at 9am (traffic was dreadful, I remember too & usually that would drive me nuts, but I wanted to hear Heath updates), it was all over the all radio stations & at that stage, it seemed like he'd killed himself...reports were found dead, sleeping pills by bed.

Everyone was talking about it at work & the daughter of a colleague of mine was actually in SoHo when it happened & was keeping us up to date through the day. That afternoon, heaps of radio stations had tributes, but the one that stuck with me was to the song 'Happy Ending' by Mika. They just played the song & had little snippets of Heath talking in particular, how much he loved Michelle & Matilda. Everytime I hear that song &the Alicia Keys song now, I am reminded of Heath. The Mika song gives me goosebumps & reminds me just how precious life is.

That night on the news at 6pm, they opened with pictures of Heath, set to the opening bars of Powderfingers 'These days' & I absolutely burst my eyes out crying. I don't know why Heath's passing affected me so much. People say rational things like 'you didn't know him personally', and thats true, but his death, to this day, still upsets me. I guess it just shocked me so much to see someone so young cut down in the prime of their life. He wasn't much older than me & it just made me realise how short & how precious life is & that we never know when our time will come, so we need to live our lives to the fullest. And that scared me & gave me the kick up the ass I needed to stop talking about all the things I wanted to do in life & start doing them. And I know it probably means jack ***** to the Legder family, but part of me wishes there was a way I could let them know...what I was going through in late 2007 early 2008 & how different everything is now because I started living my life....maybe it would give them 1/100000000000000000000000000th of solace knowing that their sons passing gave me the huge eye-opening that I need to make me start living my life, so his death, to me at least, wasn't in vain. But I know all they probably want is their baby boy back.

Anyways, I just wanted to share that on the aniversary of his death. I didn't post it all on IMDB, but I like I said, I wanted to share.

Whilst reading though the previous thread earlier, I found that I'd simply written: "Add me, please." At first, I wondered about the simplicity of my message, the briefness and formality. I asked myself why I hadn't written any more. Then, upon attempting to write in this thread now, I realise why. Because to fully comprehend and accept the reason behind why this thread is here is unbearable. Because it hurts too much. A year has passed and although the wound may heal in time, the scar will never fade.

Heath is an inspiration; a phenomenal actor with true passion and dedication, not to mention a wonderful father. He will always be in my heart.

Just coming in to pay my condolences. Hard to believe it officially marks a year since Heath's death. Time sure has flown by.

RIP Heath and hope all is well up in your new home.
