The Dark Knight Appreciation #3: Some Men Just Want to Watch The World Burn

The Dark Knight Appreciation

Batman and James Gordon join forces with Gotham's new District Attorney, Harvey Dent, to take on a psychotic bank robber known as The Joker, whilst other forces plot against them, and Joker's crimes grow more and more deadly.

The Dark Knight

Trivia:
1. This is the first Batman film to not have "Batman" in the title.
2. Robin Williams, Lachy Hulme, Paul Bettany, and Adrien Brody all expressed interest for the role of the Joker before Heath Ledger was cast.
3. When asked, "Why Heath Ledger as the Joker?" Christopher Nolan said, "Because he's fearless."
4. The Joker's character is based on his first two appearances in the comic books, as well as his portrayal in the graphic novel "The Killing Joke." To prepare for the role, Heath Ledger lived alone in a hotel room for a month researching the character and developing his performance, which he claims is based upon Sid Vicious and the character of Alex in A Clockwork Orange (1971). Ledger found the role extremely difficult, and suffered insomnia as a result.
5. Heath Ledger's sudden death on January 22, 2008 prompted immediate speculation as to the state of this film. Late the same day, Warner Bros. released a statement declaring that Ledger had completed all his scenes and post-production work, thus making the Joker the actor's final completed appearance in a film.
6. Sir Michael Caine said of Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker: "He is going to surprise a lot of people. He is absolutely terrifying. I'd say that he is the scariest thing I've ever seen on screen."

Oh my god. Just saw it!

Spoiler:

At first I thought the movie started out slow and was worried that Heath wasnt in it as much as I would have hoped but toward the end he was and I loved that. My heart skipped a beat when they showed him in the bodybag. I was like 'oh my god...how ironic!' and then he stood up in the body bag. I almost cried! Heath's acting was just amazing. Like people expected it to be because of the hype but it was just...everything I had hoped...and more! I loved the part when he told the story about his parents and how his dad said 'Let's put a smile on that face!' I was like 'ohhhh!!!' And him in the nurse's outfit. I never saw a man look as hot in that outfit than I did tonight! And when he was walking down the hall...I could just picture him talking to the director in the aussie accent about wearing that. I loved the wig!

Overall, his acting was just amazing. I am going to make some artwork from the movie and posted it here for the OP.

LOL, the nurse part was another one of my favorites. I loved when the bomb didn't work outside of the hospital.

Spoiler:
I agree, I wish they showed what exactly happened to the Joker instead of focusing on Batman at the end. Maybe it was just me, but I felt the movie was more centered around the Joker and he was the star of it. I was actually kind of annoyed everytime Batman came on, LOL. I never wanted the Joker to be caught because I never wanted it to end!

ETA - I also think I might be the only one on this, although my family agreed with me, too, but Christian Bale's voice annoyed me when he was in the Batman costume, LOL. It sounded all stuffed and his voice was like, lower or something.

Spoiler:
When Batman first came on the scene and I heard his voice I was like 'uhhh about that!' Yeah I thought at the beginning that it was mainly focused about Batman but toward the end like with the police station the Joker was more in the picture. I didn't like the ending. Like....I want to know what happend with the two boats and with the joker being left alone hung upside down. Like what was up with that. I hated how the ending was mostly about Batman and how he should turn himself in and how he's a hero. I was like 'what about the bloody joker!' In my opinion the Joker was the star of the movie although I must say Christian Bale did a good job acting.

As for Maggie. I can't stand her in this movie. Not that I am a big fan of her anyways. I just found her acting to be really blah and boring. I was surprised she died though. And Harvey becoming Two Face...I knew that was coming because when I saw Batman Forever with Tommy Lee Jones being Two Face as soon as I saw the coin I knew it was him!

Spoiler:
I really thought that Maggie's character was unecessary, actually. Like, she didn't really serve a purpose other than for Harvey to become Two Face. And I thought that after she did die, Bruce would have an emotional scene or something, but he really didn't so that surprised me.

I completely agree about the ending.
