It's not worth the trouble to look it up. I don't have that much faith in my memory.

The Crystaline Entity was a surprise and I really loved how it's return was handled.

I remember hearing that Michelle Forbes was offered a permanent role, whether it was on TNG, DS9, or Voyager I can't remember, but she turned it down.

In 1991, after guesting on an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, the producers were so impressed that they created a role for her on the show and in season five, she was introduced as a feisty, Bajoran officer, Ensign Ro Laren. She was a strong character, one who challenged authority, and the fans responded to her immediately. When Paramount greenlighted a spin-off called Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Forbes was offered the chance to take Ro to the space station and become that show's female lead.

Trekkers were astonished that she would turn down the role; was she crazy? No, she wasn't; she simply didn't want to commit to a seven-year contract, which is what she was asked to sign in order to take the role. In her place, Nana Visitor was signed and a new Bajoran character, Kira Nerys, was created. Reflecting on her decision not to do DS9, she told TV Zone Magazine: "There were all sorts of rumors about why I didn't take it, that I was quite arrogant about the whole thing. It wasn't that at all. It was, again, about wanting variety in my career. ...That's not to say I wasn't grateful for the opportunity; I genuinely was. However, I had to make a choice that felt right for me, which was a difficult one, especially as a young actor being offered a steady job."

I always enjoyed when they made reference to something from a past episode. It makes sense that they would occasionally encounter the same things again.

True. Since the focus of the shows were exploration and discovery, they couldn't keep recycling species we'd previously met but I thought it was nice continuity when they did encounter something again.

*headdesk* I was watching BSG: Razor the other day and was once again wondering why her name was so familiar.

I remember hearing that she was in BSG. Is the role a stretch from Ro Laren or are the characters similiar?

Are there similarities between Helena Cain and Ro Laren?

Cain was a smart and ambitious officer & made it to Admiral on fast track. After the cylon attack she's driven by her need for revenge and doesn't even let her crew stop her - she killed her XO when he dared to question her decisions. She stripped civilian ships of their FTL drives - among other things - to get supplies for the Pegasus and afterwards left the civilians on their defenseless ships to sure death (and the list could go on, but I don't want to bore you with too many details).

My knowledge of Ro is a bit fuzzy, but I don't think she went that far. I do remember she had some trouble too and later joined some rebel (?) group right?

So, do I see similarities? Not really. As I said above, I don't recall all the details about Ro's storyline, so if I forgot some vital info let me know

hmm ... I always found Ro defensive, pushy and definitely looked out for herself first, but not to that extent. Yes, as I remember she joined the Maquis.

Yeah, Ro seemed to be looking out for herself, but I doubt she was as obsessed as Cain.

Ro joined the Maquis - didn't remember that. I should get my DVD's out and watch some old episodes

Kurtwood Smith, Annorax in the Voyager episodes Year in Hell parts 1 & 2, Thrax in DS9 episode Things Past, and the Federation President in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, reprised his role as Agent Edward Cooper on Medium last night. The way it was left he may come back again. I remember him on the Voyager episodes but not DS9 or ST VI. Regardless, I think he's a great actor and generally enjoy his work.
