yeah, one of the things I enjoy about Trek is the violence is usually implied. I don't need to see the gory details.

Even the cut off face in that episode I didn't fully like to see tbh lol. Especially the first time i saw this when I was like 10 or so.

I wonder if they got fan backlash after that episode originally aired? For the most part Trek is a show you can watch as a family.

I don't remember hearing anything at the time. I'm glad that the violence was an exception rather than the rule.

There's always one gory episode Discovery had the one with that tardigrade, where they discover it for the first time and it kinda splattered some crew members of the sistership of the discovery. And TNG had Conspiracy in season 1 with that guy who's head explodes after riker and picard shoot on him with phasers.

Yes, Discovery has been more violent overall. It's not a show I'd feel comfortable watching with children.
