Totally agree with you there.

Spielberg wanted Liam Neeson to get overweight for Schindler's List, but Neeson had worked hard to get in shape, so he said no way.

I can respect that. It's probably a bit easier to plump an actor up than to make them look to be fit & in shape if they aren't.

Actors get so much credit for getting fat for a role, and I think it's just bull. It's the acting that counts, not their weight.

The best bean-pole actor in the world can't properly pull off Teddy Brewster, sum, any more than Sean Connery could pull off a convincing Janet Jackson. If I'm casting Arsenic and Old Lace and I have a choice between an awesome actor who's 110 lbs at 6'1" and a so-so 5'11" actor that weighs 250 lbs, I'll sacrifice a little talent to make sure Teddy looks like Teddy every single time. So an actor that's willing to put the effort into making a significant bodily change does put an extra check mark under his or her plus-column.

But it doesn't make their actual acting better acting, though the critics seem to think it does. Just because somebody puts on weight for a role doesn't mean their performance is a great performance.

Agree that having the look of the role won't make a person a better actor, but it would make it easier to accept them in the role.

Consequently, I will never be cast as a beautiful or left-handed woman.

Tom does a GREAT job in This Means War! His chemistry with both Chris and Reese make it easy to believe that he cares for both of them. The brother-like bond between his character and Chris's really helps make the movie more enjoyable. It is nice that they can be so immature one minute and so serious the next.

Didn't realize this was the same actor who played Shinzon, though.
