If this bombs....and it's a big if.....we might very well be witnessing the last breathe of a once storied franchise.

Already Paramount has laid off it's entire startrek.com staff....no more official site.

Startrek.com is still up.

They shouldn't be pinning the hopes of the franchise on something that's crapping all over the franchise. I expect this will bomb.

James T Kirk: Chris Pine
Ok, I get totally the wrong vibe off this guy. Kirk he is not.

Quote:
Spock: Zachary Quinto
You shouldn't be recasting any of the characters but Spock most of all can't be recast. Nobody works as Spock but Nimoy, so you can't have a convincing younger Spock. They shouldn't be attempting it on film. And they wouldn't need to if it weren't for the whole stupid idea of this film's story. Quit screwing with trek's past and move on with its future. Didn't Enterprise teach them the flashback game wasn't going to work? This is going to flop.

Quinto at least looks the vaguest bit like Nimoy, but no way will he be able to make Spock feel like Spock. And Sylar is an overrated pain in the butt.

And jeez, Quinto is younger than me. I'm old.

Leonard Nimoy: Spock[/size]
No way can this guy play Spock, totally the wrong feel

Quote:
Dr. Leonard 'Bones' McCoy: Karl Urban
Yes of course, get a big powerful guy to play a thin guy. And Kelley made McCoy very distinctive. That can't be duplicated but at least they could try getting a little closer than this. Eomer is not Bones.

Quote:
Montgomery 'Scotty' Scott: Simon Pegg
You've got be kidding me! Simon Pegg as Scotty?! Wtf? And he doesn't look the slightest like him either.

Quote:
Bruce Greenwood: Christopher Pike
Huh? Are we forgetting that Pike was still a young guy later in Spock's career than this movie takes place?

God help us, with this sort of casting I guess I should be thankful they didn't cast Uhura as white.

This one is throwing me for a loop too. To me, he just doesn't have the right look.

Startrek.com is still up, for now.

Paramount has gone back a bit now, saying they won't shut the site completely down, but it will become very limited. The entire staff has still been laid off.

Trekweb.com has a bunch more details on it.

What does "will become very limited" mean? Will the encyclopedia function still work?

Casting is important: That can turn off the “old time” veteran fans. However, there’s a second issue; If this movie gets “ preachy “ I’ll probably bail out of the Star Trek fan club myself (and that’s saying a lot for me). I enjoy most Trek movies & shows since they're a way to for me to get away from the every day crap, sort of spend some time in a different dimension.. I already get my fill of political correctness (racism, gun control, GAY rights, world hunger, fascism, church & state, etc., etc.). These are important, but they’re in my face already, every day, in the magazines, talk shows, the Web, News, newspapers, you name it. I, truthfully, no longer need a movie to preach to me..
I just want to watch the Klingons kick ass, and the warp engines explode, and Sulu yell out “fly the ship apart, then”. Please tell me this movie will be full of phaser action and pretty girls in skimpy costumes,... NO MORE “in-your-face” political correctness..

I go to the movies, or watch tv, to be entertained. I don't mind a mild message, like the diversity of the cast suggesting a less prejudiced future, but I don't want to be clobbered over the head with it.

Hopefully, but maybe there won't be any further updates.

CBS Interactive posted a statement on the Star Trek.com Web site Monday saying the site itself is not being threatened with closure, and would continue despite the staff cuts. The company ended up eliminating 20 jobs overall in cost-cutting measures.
New rumours that there may still be a cameo for William Shatner.

Hey Chris: I thought about your statement:..." I don't mind a mild message, suggesting a less prejudiced future".... I know this makes me sound like the bad guy, but I think ( just for the "movie script) I don't want a suggestion of less prejudice. I hear about that issue on the TV every day.. I think I want the Romulans to always hate the Klingons, and for the Hirogen to always be looking for a more challenging prey to hunt down. For the movies, I don't want prisoners to be treated like "namby-pamby's".. I want to see Rura Penthe in the raw (tho I do want to see people fight their way out).. I want to see Frank Gorshin and Lou Antonio wind up locked in an eternal battle..... Color me ‘grim’, but I want the hour of “pure escapism” and I want the script left open for several sequels..

I read something else, I think it was on AICN or a site like that, that says they're looking at the site traffic for ST.com and the message board postings before making a final decision on what to do with the site.

If they only laid off 20 people.....then 15 of them were the trek staff. I saw a picture they posted up, and that was roughly the head count. Sounds like CBS is trying to step back out of a pile of poo they stepped in.

Yep, she is. Although everybody thought (even me!) that Jennifer was dark-brunette . She dyed her hair for "House" .

Btw, I've seen that you added the info of Jennifer to the opening . Sorry for not send you the PM with her info that I promised you

I didn't think so. Well, maybe when she was crushing on House and he obviously didn't reciprocate. I miss her not being around as much this season.

True. Besides, if there wasn't some sort of conflict, the storylines would get boring fast.

The main page at StarTrek.com has been promoting their message boards for the past few days.

No problem. I've been kind of swamped lately and haven't had a chance to work too much on the opening.
