I'm relieved that Marina Sirtis didn't get fired in the first season. She shared during a convention that if Denise Crosby hadn't quit, Marina would've been fired. Although I do wish we could've seen Yar's character evolve the same way Worf and Troi's do throughout the series, losing Deanna Troi would've left a huge void in the show, imo.

Throughout the first season not really sure if that's valid though -- Deanna and Yar were equal footing

So I felt either character would have succeed like if it were Martina out and Denise in where we had gotten Yar instead Troi

Granted there was only really Riker|Trio "history" that makes her apart from Yar

Oo i didn't know about that Marina in 1st season , seems that they was a lot of stuff going on in 1st season regariding the actresses, considering what happened with Gates as well

Oh, I agree! I'm just saying that because we do get all those storylines with Troi after season 1, losing Troi would have left a void. Not saying that losing Yar, had we gotten a lot of stories with her, too, wouldn't have left a void, as well. But I can see where my post could be interpreted to mean Troi > Yar. I didn't mean to suggest that.

Oh, yeah. According to Gates, she was fired for making suggestions to the producers about her character.

I'm not well informed on all the things that went on in the background of the show. I am glad we didn't lose Troi. I have always enjoyed the character! I starting to rewatch TNG, and I am about 10 episodes in. At this point. Troi is already an interesting character.

Me neither on the background other than knowing that Denise left which was still a shame

the whole deal with Gates being gone for the 2nd season made no sense she has a teenager that is a main star of the series that is an acting ensign so that alone, plus the hits that we got of Picard|Bev really made me wanting more of Crusher ... so glad they first things

don't worry about where I didn't take the post as Troi vs Yar was just trying to mention that from just the first season as if the series had started and we were watching weekly -- without the other 6 seasons plus 4 movies

Either character just off season 1 could have gone forward with the series where its a shame we couldn't have had both but I did always love when Denise came back especially Yesterday's Enterprise is one of my top favorite episodes plus her half Romulan daughter associated to what I mainly remember is when we saw Spock when Picard traveled to tell him about Sarek's death

So either of the ladies could have had interesting full series it worked out amazingly related to Troi and after 7 seasons plus 4 movies. Does feel like a void would have been left with not having Troi

I just think it could have been cool having first female security officer and Yar was just a great character altogether though when they brought Michelle's Ensign Ro in for me, I got a bit of the awesomeness of somebody like Yar back. Yar wasn't defiant like Ro but feel with "similar" upbringing that Ro was a younger Yar
