Joel McHale and The Soup have been at it again.

First of all, in the special The Soup Presents People Who Won't Go Away, George Takei made a special appearance and was a very good sport.

Second, on last Friday's regular episode Joel referred to the Bachelorette as someone whose species had forgone emotions centuries ago and had to mate once every seven years in a ritual referred to as Pon Farr.

He sure didn't think much of her.

The clip following the lovely introduction mentioned above was of her appearing to shed one (1) tear for dumping one of the bachelors. Several episodes ago there was a clip of her confronting several of the bachelors because they seemed to prefer spending time with each other playing cards than with her. She showed about as much real emotion that time as well.

Can't say that I'm a fan of that type of show in the first place. It all sounds rather shallow to me.

Stephen Colbert was talking about the Miss Universe pageant in tonight's episode. He was saying he was proud that a woman from earth always won. And then said something like, "I don't know why the Ferrengi (sp?) even bother."

It's hard to imagine a Ferengi woman in a beauty contest.

Thanks for bringing that over Pia.

From a trailer for the animated movie Space Chimps:

"Commander's log: Space, the Final Frontier..." That's as far as the chimp got before another chimp told him he's a dork.

I've just seen a print ad for that movie, not a trailer.

If you can, check out the video on imdb.com. I think it looks hilarious but everyone else (including the reviewer in the local paper) think it's stupid.

Just watched it. It does look like it will be funny. Not something I'd make an effort to see at the theatre, but I'll try to remember to check it out once it's on DVD.

I'm reading Small Favor by Jim Butcher and there have been at least 2 ST references. Can't remember the first right now (book is at home) but the second won't be fading from memory anytime soon. The lead character "spocked" his eyebrow at someone.

I definitely missed this one, but I do remember seeing a ST reference in the book.

Edited - This?

Nope. I think it was more direct - maybe something about a crew? I really need to keep extra bookmarks handy.

ETA:
I think I found your reference last night and I wrote it down but left it at home. IIRC, it's at the beginning of Chapter 42 and Murphy and Dresden are talking about how Butters would complain about trying to fix Kincaid by saying, "I'm a doctor, not a pasta chef."

Still can't find the other one I was thinking about. Pretty sure it's near the end of a chapter in the first half of the book.

ETA #2:
I think I found mine (although it's way different than what I was thinking). Just before the end of Chapter 15, Dresden is talking to Sanya and referencing the movie Excalibur. He says, "Merlin was the only good thing about that movie. That and Captain Picard kicking ass in plate mail with a big ax."

ETA #3:
Just saw this when I was doing a Psych quiz at usanetwork.com -
7. What do the initials K.I.T.T. stand for?
A. Knight Industries Two Thousand
B. Klingon Interstellar Teleportation Transport
C. Knights of Intergalactic Time Travel
D. Knowledgeable Interactive Talking Trans am

In an episode of the cartoon Sealab 2021, a character says "I need silence while I mindmeld with the internet." Needless to say, the character isn't smart.
