I really enjoyed this movie. I liked it a lot better than last year's new Star Wars film. Chris Pine was good as always. Again, Karl Urban got McCoy right despite looking nothing like him. Zoe Saldana could be used more, but she's good. There's depth in Zoe that they should explore. I was less bothered by the new versions of Spock and Scotty than I used to be, because I've gotten used to them as themselves, so I'm comparing them less with the originals. Of course, Quinto will never really be Spock to me, but he's a goood actor anyway. Seeing Anton Yelchin and knowing he was recently dead was an odd experience. I was quite touched when Quinto Spock was told of the original Spock's death. That meant a lot to me, because of Nimoy's death. Similarly, the dedication to Nimoy and Yelchin in the credits was appreciated. It was good to have talented actor Idris Elba on board. But most of all what I loved about the film was Jaylah. Sofia Boutella was so cool in the role. Fey, fiery, with vim, vitality and personality, her Jaylah comes fully alive as a character. I only wish she could have been given a bigger role. But seeing as she's joined Starfleet, she could return.

I'm glad you enjoyed the movie.

Jaylah was a great character. It will be interesting to see whether or not she does return.

As to Zoe, agree that she's a terrific actress with a very expressive face. Personally, I've thought that they've used her character well. She's had the opportunity to stand up for herself, and has had scenes showing her initiative in dealing with the villains in both Beyond and Into Darkness.

I had the hardest time accepting Karl Urban as Bones, probably precisely because he looks nothing like DeForrest Kelley. His scenes and repartee with Spock in this film went a long way towards convincing me that he was right for the character.

Oh yes, the Spock-McCoy scenes were good.

Hi sum! *waves* So happy you liked Beyond, it works as both a stand alone story and a story honoring what came before.

Good to agree on this. I think I feel in love with Jaylah. We'd better see her again.

Oh absolutely sum. I hope she will reappear in the next film. And they should continue mixing new story with classic references if they can work them seamlessly into the story like they did with Beyond.
Does anybody have the blu ray edition of this movie. if so, are there any bonus features the DVD I got is bare.

I don't have a Blu-ray player

They'll need to fill Chekov's spot, so perhaps they'll use that as an excuse to bring back Jaylah.

I will give blu ray a chance as long as there are sufficent bonus materials to justify getting them.

While I strongly doubt anyone ever meant to replace a beloved character when they created Jaylah, having her take Chekhov's spot would be easy to do tastefully.
