The person did a really good job with it.

These are fairly similar, but there are some differences. One big spoiler

Spoiler:

I plan on seeing it at least once to see if it's any good. Even though I liked seeing Alice Eve as Carol in the last feature, I did not overall enjoy the movie. *shrugs*

 I'll see it at least once. Whether or not I buy the DVD will depend on how much I enjoyed it.

If it is good, I hope they will release a special edition. Into Darkness only got the bare bones release and as far as I am aware of, that was the only release it got.

It will probably be re-released eventually, especially if they think they can make more money from it.

It just seems odd that the 2009 reboot got the steelbox special edition and Into Darkness didn't. Like they knew it wouldnt be a great film and didnt want to waste the money and effort on it. *shrugs*

Musickat18 01-28-2016 10:09 AM

 I like Into Darkness more than Star Trek (2009). But I also had never seen The Wrath of Khan before I saw the movie, so I had no special attachment to the original version.

Chris 01-28-2016 11:13 AM

 I think being able to put aside any preconceptions about Khan would help people appreciate Into Darkness more.

CommanderM 01-28-2016 03:41 PM

The two things I liked about Into Darkness were Carol and the furthering of the Spock/Uhura relationship. It wasn't all bad...but yes Khan was not what I expected and temporarily killing off Captain Kirk was a mistake.

Did you not notice how Kirk dying from warp core radiation was a mirror image of Spock dying from the same source in the Wrath of Khan? That was their "surprise" twist. It was also supposed to be character development that turned Kirk into a proper captain. At the beginning of the film he was chastised for being irresponsible. His near-death was the result of him realising what was needed to be a good commander; self-sacrifice and caring more for the crew and mission than himself. It did not make the film any better, but to me that was the obvious intention.

:look: I liked that scene, and that they found a way to switch the roles. :)

Musickat18 01-29-2016 08:45 AM

 Since we're literally dealing with an AU, I liked that switch.

I noticed it, and I did not go for it. That so-called homage was simply not needed or ncessary in my view....

Musickat18 02-04-2016 01:53 PM

I don't know that it was an homage strictly speaking. It was more just..."we're in an alternate universe and this time it's Kirk who chooses to die instead of Spock". There's a difference between those two to me. :look:
