For me, I would like to have him written off screen, say he's working at Headquarters, I would not want the character recast

Same here cause Anton was involved with 3 movies and would rather the character off screen either died or working HQ

Agree with both of you. Have him accept a promotion to a different ship, go back to the academy for more training, or assign him to headquarters. There are lots of ways to explain his absence.

It's just gonna suck cause Chetev {sp?} was a large part of the original Star Trek but this is AU

While I mourn Anton's untimely death, and I hate how callous this sounds, I think Chekov or Sulu would be the easiest characters to explain away.

Those two are the easiest to explain away

cause it's the story of Kirk/Spock plus Bones - those 3 were the core of TOS and Uhura is important cause of Spock/Uhura
