Thought it was time for a thread to compile info about the new film.

Justin Lin will be in the director's chair.

‘Star Trek 3′ Reflects ‘Spirit of the TV Show,’ Simon Pegg Says

Quote:

“I think we just want to take it forward with the spirit of the TV show,” Pegg told the site.
Quote:

“And it’s a story about frontierism and adventure and optimism and fun, and that’s where we want to take it, you know, where no man has gone before — where no one has gone before, sensibly corrected for a slighter more enlightened generation,” he said. “But yeah, that’s the mood at the moment.”

Quote:

When put to him that the pressure was on with this one, given the divisive reaction to Star Trek Into Darkness, Pegg admitted that "I had certain issues with Into Darkness as well".

"It's interesting to be able to take those forward and be at the helm a little bit. You're always learning when you're working with a series of movies because you go okay, what did people like there? What did people not like? What did we like? And that's a crazy way to work because we're shooting in summer come hell or high water".

Casting rumors include the possibility of Bryan Cranston or Idris Elba as the villain.

It is SOOOO okay with me if they go back to what made the original great with this next movie... :)

Too late to regain the original feel. The story has already been eviscerated. Vulcan has been destroyed, the time-line altered, and someone present who knows what and who are out there and approaching. If they move away from mindless action movies and try to regain the original feel, they will make a bigger mess than they already have.

Im just worried they will completely ignore Into Darkness and not feature Alice Eve's Carol Marcus character. Nothing I have yet seen suggests she will return in this third feature.

She didn't exactly add much to Into Darkness...

No, but JJ or one of his people allegedley indicated she might have a bugger part in the third film if people liked her in Into Darkness. Unless they are going to totally ignore the David Marcus story, this is the time for Kirk and Carol to get together.

Agreed. It would be nice to see her come back.

One more thing-if they weren't planning to do something with that storyline then why cast the Carol Marcus part ?

It would be nice if she adds to the story, not if she's just eye-candy.

 And I don't care if she has much of a story line, but it's nice to have some recurring background characters.
