Spot Data's cat Appreciation thread: He appeared in a blaze of magic

Spot Data's beloved cat, who originally appeared as a Somali Cat but later became a normal house cat, was a male before but became a female around 6th season and gave birth to four beautiful kittens. Some people suggest that Spot may have been a shape shifter hence the breed and sex change but anyway I liked all the cats that were used as Spot! Data created several hundred different food supplements for Spot and also composed an ode in Spot's honor which I'll try to find and post lateron but first a few pictures of Spot with data and Barclay.

EDIT: whoops made a mistake, mods? can you guys please correct the spelling in the title? missed an A in Data's

Really? I didn't realize that. Maybe it's something about pets in space because Porthos also had the mysterious ability to change sex.

Great thread idea! I'm not a cat person, but it was cute seeing Data interact with Spot.

ah I didn't know about porthos, but then I haven't seen all of the Enterprise episodes yet. I love Data centered eppies specially the ones with spot in it!

I'm a biggest cat lover, I've had cats since I was 5 years old, my first kitten was a persian cat that my grany gave me on my 5th b-day, she was so lovely. I have a lot of experience with training cats they're easily trained and no hard work, all my cats love to play fetch balls like dogs its funny, I have little balls for them so they can easily pick em up oh and the things they eat. They love vegetables, rice, peas specially spicey food. They LOVE eating crisps, french fries basically anything made of potato. I've never seen cats eat potatoes, I guess thats because all my cats were born at my house and they like to eat whatever I'm eating.
I need to stop talking about my cats sorry I get carried away sometimes, I just love my cats and once I start talking about em it's hard to make me stop

alright I found ode written by Data in honour of Spot.

Felis Cattus, is your taxonomic nomenclature,
an endothermic quadruped carnivorous by nature?
Your visual, olfactory and auditory senses
contribute to your hunting skills, and natural defenses.

I find myself intrigued by your subvocal oscillations,
a singular development of cat communications
that obviates your basic hedonistic predilection
for a rhythmic stroking of your fur, to demonstrate affection.

A tail is quite essential for your acrobatic talents;
you would not be so agile if you lacked its counterbalance.
And when not being utilized to aide in locomotion,
it often serves to illustrate the state of your emotion.

Oh Spot, the complex levels of behaviour you display
connote a fairly well-developed cognitive array.
And though you are not sentient, Spot, and do not comprehend,
I nonetheless consider you a true and valued friend.

"Schisms"

Pictures from episode 'Phantasms'

DATA: May I ask a personal favor?

WORF: Yes?

Data walks over to the couch, where Spot is lying down. He indicates the cat.

DATA: Will you take care of Spot for me?

WORF: Your... animal?

DATA: (nods) I am concerned that if I have another waking dream, I may... injure him.

Worf is moved by the sentiment.

WORF: Of course.

Worf eyes the cat, not quite sure how to deal with it. Data gently picks up Spot and hands him to Worf. Worf handles the cat awkwardly. Data reaches out and pets Spot on the head gently.

DATA: (continuing) Goodbye, Spot.

Worf heads for the door.

DATA: (continuing) He will need to be fed once a day. He prefers feline supplement one-twenty-five.

WORF: I understand.

DATA: And he will require water. And you must also provide him with a sand box.

Worf nods.

DATA: (continuing, one last thing) And you must talk to him. Tell him he is a pretty cat, and a good cat...

WORF: (cutting him off) I will... feed him.

DATA: Perhaps that will be enough.

I loved this scene, it was so sweet and funny

Michael Dorn/Worf did a wonderful job in this scene being so awkward with Spot. And it was so funny because here's this big, intimidating Klingon warrior being cautious around a small domesticated animal.

Hunniah, great idea for a thread. I Spot. And I'm a cat person myself.

You've brought back a lot of good memories.

Strange how people tend to be 'cat people' or 'dog people'.

Well, me, having a dual nature like most Gemini, I like them both just fine.

But, back to the thread, I like Spot too. The animal brought up some nice scenes for Data to shine.

Seeing Data display affection with Spot certainly did make for some interesting scenes.

I wonder if Spot was ever introduced to Picard's fish?

I think it made Data look/act more human.

Yeah, showing Data caring Spot certainly showed some humanity. Even if Data referred to the food as 'nutritional supplement #whatever'

I watched 'Phantasms' yesterday, and this scene is just totally awesome.
