Me neither. I prefer the full beard to that. But I still think clean shaven is best.

Really? The stubble look is certainly popular these days, but it doesn't do much for me.

Rehearsals began yesterday for Patrick's upcoming play, A Life in the Theater. Pics haven't surfaced yet but the marquee, banners, and window displays have been mounted. Here are the pics:

A three quarter view of the Gerald Schoenfeld Theater where it will be performed. The marquee facing the street is unfinished but not the one facing the sidewalk.

A close-up of that marquee

The door banner

Patrick's half of the window display that exhibits his reviews from the London version in 2006.

This is the second half with his co-star, TR Knight, with the funny tagline:

All the World's a Stage....And in the End, All that Matters is Who's Got the Biggest Part

Yes, that's a double entendre. David Mamet is renown for dialogue where men boast larger genital size to show dominance. I read a bit of the play and it's comparatively light on the profanity. Mamet's masterpiece, Glengarry Glen Ross, logs in 200 instances of cursing as a comparison. His character will drop the f-bomb a few times.

UP ON THE MARQUEE: A LIFE IN THE THEATRE 2010/08/23

Here's his latest interview where he discusses his feature plans. After this play he's going to reinvest in his film career.

Wow! Thanks so much for sharing your pictures.

I'll admit to being a little surprised that they didn't give Patrick a "Sir".

I don't mind the occasional f word if it's in character. What I don't care for is people who can't utter a sentence without using that word.

Do you plan to see the play?

I can't go because I live in Vegas and my mom can't travel anymore. There are plenty I know who plan to attend and I'll happily keep the thread updated on news, pics, and assorted things.

Here's the synopsis|:

Quote:
A behind-the-scenes peek at the challenge of actors battling to share both a dressing room and the spotlight, A Life in the Theatre follows two actors in a repertory company: Robert, an older, experienced performer and John, a newcomer to the stage. John at first welcomes Robert’s guidance, but soon overshadows his mentor. From rehearsals to reprisals, from ego trips to acting tips, the play gives a glimpse into the complex relationship that develops as the torch is passed from one generation to the next—a passing that wavers from love and mutual respect to impatience and resentment.

I heard it was a creative decision on his part to maintain Mamet's spirit of grittiness. He understands Mamet's name is as much a selling point to the public as his and TR Knight's. I applaud that humility.

The second part describes most of Mamet's other plays and characters. The strange thing is that because the cursing is so prevalent the actors use different inflections to the profanity to convey different moods. Some say they have to make it almost melodic or treat is as an emotion. Considering Patrick has an excellent mastery of language and sound I'd love to know how he distinguishes the obscenities in different scenes.

Okay. That's too bad. I thought maybe you had taken the pictures yourself.

Totally agree with you there. Also, I suppose maybe the "Sir" doesn't have quite as much weight outside of the UK.

on Wed. Patrick attended a meet and greet for the press to promote his upcoming play. As promised here are the photos:

These two demonstrate his animate nature while speaking:

He carries such an air of regality he resembles a work of art:

Miniatures of the set design:

Close-up of "Scene 25" with the figure with the modern jacket representing John (TR Knight) and the one in the suit symbolizing Robert (Patrick):

Favors to the press:

Photo Coverage: A LIFE IN THE THEATRE Meet & Greet 2010/08/26

Two interviews:

T.R. Knight: 'A Life in the Theatre' with Patrick Stewart On Broadway! on AP-RED

This one is oriented more towards TR Knight because of his standing in the Broadway community and his previous goodwill with AP. Patrick is so humble and he doesn't care that he doesn't have the brighter spotlight. He's so funny and sweet.

BWW TV: Broadway Beat Sneak Peek - A LIFE IN THE THEATRE Meet the Press! Video Content (BroadwayWorld.com)

This one is more balanced. Yes, Neil Pepe, the director, refers to him many times with the sir.

From both vids David Mamet is directly involved in this production and tailored the script to fit both actors. That's an incredible honor for both of them.

It does. The American public do believe the title bestowed upon actors signify quality. However, it also connotes Shakespearean theatre or any other formal works. Mamet was revolutionary in that he brought a working-class and gritty vibe to the stage. While this is play is less hard-edged nonetheless it's clear Patrick fell in love with it and wanted to keep the spirit.

Just with his face and the stance of his body, he conveys a lot of expression.

That's wonderful to hear. There's nothing more off-putting than somebody who is totally full of themselves.
