Well, it's probably just because I got used to her being Kathryn, but I can't see Janeway being a Nicole, really.

Agree. It's maybe kind of silly, but that name just doesn't seem to suit her.

Nicole would have been fitting for Bujold though

Found this on the name discussion

Quote:
The character was originally called "Elizabeth Janeway", after the famous writer of the same name. However, after Geneviève Bujold was cast, she requested the character be renamed "Nicole Janeway". Bujold had mainly feature film experience, was unprepared for a schedule demanded by series television, and was unwilling to do news interviews. She dropped out on the second day of filming on the pilot episode "Caretaker". Kate Mulgrew, who had previously auditioned for the role, was brought in. She suggested that the name be changed to "Kathryn"
Guess Katherine Kiernan Maria Mulgrew just liked using her own name

woah, didn't realize the character had gone through so many name changes! I remembered that Bujold had second thoughts once she realized the filming schedule for a series.

A little weird she only thought about that when they had already started filming

Yes, it is. Oh well, I'm glad she resigned. Maybe she would have grown into the role, but I just don't see it myself.

I don't think GB was flat; she just played Janeway more reserved. It's a contrast to Kate's more emotional portrayal.

It looks interesting. I would like to watch the whole thing... the trailer looks funny.

Definitely more reserved, and perhaps she would have relaxed with time. I still prefer Kate's portrayal though.

Kia - no, I've never watched it. It does look like it could be interesting.

Look at the way she sits in the Captain's Chair. She looks like she's in the waiting room at the dentist's office. In the ready room scene, the first (in fact, only) indication she's tired is when Tuvok says so. It's like she's on auto-pilot. :/
