DW/ST challenge ... WE WON!!!!! Why do you like ST better than DW? :D

Technically over, but we need a place to wait for the final results

Quote:
The competition will run through February.

At the end of February, the forum with the most posts wins. The winner will be determined through the official site-wide post counts posted by Jerry, the site Administrator.

The losing forum will open a thread about why the winning show is better, and the posters from the winning forum can use it to gloat over their victory and praise their board's show. - This never happened, it's probably easier for the winners to celebrate on their own board.

We've also added another wrinkle: prior to the start of the challenge, posters from the two forums who wish to participate will submit their names, and we'll keep a list. Once the competition has ended, those people on the list will have their title modified (the title is the bit under your name and above your stars and avatar) to a title chosen by the winner. So, for example, the Star Trek posters could pick "Star Trek Fan" and the Doctor Who posters could pick "Doctor Who Fan". If the Star Trek forum wins, all posters from both forums who signed up before the contest will have their titles changed to "Star Trek Fan". The title changes will last through March, and then they'll be changed back to what they were before.

Star Trek Forum Challenge Participants List: Last day to register: February 12th.
While everybody is welcome to participate, only registered participants will have custom titles for the month of March.

Just to clarify: only people who post here that they want to participate will be included in the title change during March. If you'd prefer not to have your title changed to something related to the winning fandom, that's fine. Your posts will still count towards our total for the month.

If the Star Trek board wins the challenge, titles will be: Resistance is Futile
If the Doctor Who board wins the challenge, titles will be: Bow Ties Are Cool

Unofficial Post Counts: Actual numbers to be determined by official site post counts released in March.

Interesting. What would you like to do with your degree? My son has a Political Science degree and is currently taking a post grad degree in Public Administration.

Not entirely sure atm... Post Grad is definitely an option but what I think is my most likely path is, towards the end of my final year, apply to be a member of the Student Committee in a full-time, paid, position for a year (If I get voted in), then get involved with local politics as part of a local council before trying to get involved in national politics. But in the meantime I intend to campaign for better disabled access and disabled rights.

And Sternbetrachter I know I'm not nervous as the early indications is we've lost, so if it turns out we have won it'll be a nice surprise But as said previously I consider it to be a victory for both boards

I won't claim to be an expert on Kant (only just introduced to his stuff in the last few weeks), but I've had no trouble understanding anything so far and found myself in agreement with...well, pretty much all of it.

Not at all. I still think I'd rather wear "Phasers rule" than "Resistance is Futile," but I'll live either way

Wow, sounds interesting and worthwhile. Good luck with all that.

I'm not nervous about the official results. No matter the counts. both board communities were winners. The level of enthusiam generated was abosolutely incredible, the lead went back and forth all month long, and at the end of it all, we're within a few posts of each other.

I think everybody who participated should feel proud.

If Star Trek board has lost I'll have to resist the temptation to troll Doctor Who board in revenge. I haven't posted there since they banned unappreciation threads.

My feeling is that Doctor Who presently sucks. I found the old show interesting (particularly the Doctor performances) but puerile and badly made. I liked the new show in its first two seasons. It started out with a great Doctor (Eccleston) and a good companion (Rose) and a high overall quality level. In season 2 they replaced the great Doctor with a mediocre Doctor (Tennant), but a high level of quality was maintained. In season 3 the overall quality dropped significantly, though there were two good episodes. The best thing that season was the new companion, Martha, but they got rid of her at the end of the season. When I heard they were replacing her with Donna, a companion I couldn't stand, I decided that was enough for me and I quit watching. I checked it up again at the beginning of Matt Smith's run to give him a chance and I found him bland and the show childish and weak. So I'm not very enthusiastic about Doctor Who at present. I think the 2009 Star Trek movie was much better than present day Who.

But the Who mods needn't worry. I'm not going over there to tell them how it sucks. I'll just daydream about doing that.

I was hoping the results would have been made official already. I was kind of disappointed when I logged in today and DIDN'T have a new and exciting title.

Well to be fair, I do tend to fall asleep in a fair few lectures But we have covered John Locke, Thomas Hobbs, Adam Smith, Michel Foucault, Frederick Engels, Jean-Jacques Rousseau and John Stewart Mill more that Kant- we only touched on Kant for a lecture or two and imo thats not nearly enough time to truely form an opinion either way really...

And Sum1 I actually couldn't disagree more- I actually thought Eccleston was the weakest Doctor, although that may be more that I don't like the way he left the show and his constant distancing himself from it. But yeah- both Tennant/Smith eras knocks spots of the Star Trek movie (Although I did enjoy it and enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would) but yeah...

I hope so! That certainly wouldn't be in the spirit of things.

Have to admit that I've only watched part of a couple of episodes of Doctor Who. My son has one of the series on DVD though, and maybe I"ll persuade him to part with it so I can try it next time we visit.

Tim - good to hear that you enjoyed the ST movie.
