I am curious what people think about the fate of the Cardassians. I do not think there was any ambiguity. Cardassia had been razed by the Dominion and Cardassian space was under Federation and Romulan control.
Was it a good idea to end DS9 with the fall of the Cardassian's empire? My vote is no. Having four empires vying for power allowed for the creation of a much more complex universe. __________________

I just remembered one of my favourite aliens. The horta.

Nasty looking creature. I wonder if the special effects team came up with that after an especially nasty morning after.

I always thought the horta was cute. I also like the fact it is not humanoid, but an alien that looked ... alien.

I hear what you're saying, but that blob looks like something Porthos left.

I like how the horta was completely alien. Silcon-based, living inside a rock environment, not humanoid. Unfortunately, given the restraints of budget and the need for humans to play most roles, such aliens could not be common.

Coming up with unique ways to communicate with completely alien life forms would have been another challenge.

Exactly. It seems to me they used light for one species, and maybe radiation for another?

With all of the more modern episodes and feature films involving them, does anyone still remember the Klingons from the Original Series? Back when they were the cardboard cut out bad guys of the series? They were a bit before my time, but I have vdieotapes of some of their classic encounters with the Enterprise crew. I was curious whether anyone else liked to watch them too?

Ah. The evil Russians who looked like Mongolians! And that is not being facetious. The Klingons represented the Russians. The evil opponents of the United Planets of America. Just think of episodes like the one where Kirk violated the Prime Directive to arm one side, while the Klingons were arming the other. The reason? To maintain a balance of power, which is the key to preventing war. Anyone old enough to remember the Cold War will recognise that philosophy/propaganda.
