[Picard] 1:04 - "Absolute Candor" - February 13th episode discussion

Absolute Candor

Quote:

The crew’s journey to Freecloud takes a detour when Picard orders a stop at the planet Vashti, where Picard and Raffi relocated Romulan refugees 14 years earlier. Upon arrival, Picard reunites with Elnor (Evan Evagora), a young Romulan he befriended during the relocation. Meanwhile, Narek continues his attempts to learn more about Soji while Narissa’s impatience with his lack of progress grows.

Another so so episode

- :yay: to Jonathan Frakes directing…
- I did like the backstory regarding Elnor and their friendship. I really liked Picard scenes with the younger Elnor. Seems he is softening ;).
- Good to see speaking Romulan too.
- Also enjoyed Picard’s scenes with the Qowat Milat too..
- So good to see that there is a holodeck on the ship
- Right how many Holograms are there on this ship!!
- Still damn annoying about Raffi saying JL, stop this, so OOC…
- The Soji scenes were so so, just wished we get a little more. I am getting bored with the Soji and Narek storyline.
- So it seems Elnor is now good with a sword ;).
- Great space battle scene and Klingon bird of pray!!
- Did  when Picard went into full Captain mode, then realised what he did :D
- Good intro of Seven of Nine :), wonder how Picard knows her ?

The pacing so far of this season is slow though, it’s just backstory and introducing characters, it just plodding along . 4 hours into 10 & we are still no closer to anything involving the plot, or even knowing what that plot might be. Finally I like a new character that has arrived in Elnor, but still can’t get used to the other 3, they just don’t gel. Do hope the pacing and storyline gets better. When is the story actually going to get going!??

*closes eyes* I hope to watch tonight.

Enjoyed the scenes in the Romulan refugee colony and I think we'll get some snark between Jurati and Elnor.

Whooped when Seven appeared. I don't think Picard knows her personally. He had probably read the reports of Voyager and has followed her story of being an ex Borg with interest.

If he does actually know her, hope we find out how

- interesting that a smallish ship like that would have a holodeck.

- I think the number of holograms is going to get annoying

- efficient way to give us backstory about Picard and Elnor

- not sure what Picard was thinking when he took down the 'Romulans only' sign at the bar and basically picked a fight

- overall I like Raffi, but her calling Picard JL is getting very annoying

- I could get into the Soji & Narek, except we know he's just using her,

- Narek's sister is creepy, especially the way she acts with him

- Seven! and Picard recognized her. I look forward to seeing more of her next week.

- I'm liking Dr Jurati, but I'm really not sure of her role since she just seems to be a passenger.

- while it was maybe in character, I didn't really think it was necessary for Rios to use the F word.

:look: I really want to like this show, but have to admit that if it wasn't Picard, I'd probably give up on it at this point. We're 4 episodes in and it seems like they're still dribbling out back story.

This show is taking forever to get going. I've had enough of episodes where nothing really happens except for introducing new characters. The story on the Borg cube is becoming dull too, as nothing is really happening there either, and the threat level isn't being maintained.

The characters are annoying, and Picard himself is making very strange decisions for the sake of the plot and not because there was any real reason to do them

Also I'm getting fed up of him taking on his own shoulders the faults of the Federation, which he had absolutely no control over.

The good moment for me was the (at last!) appearance of Seven of Nine. I've been waiting for that for so long!

I really hope the plot actually gets going next episode, before the audience drops away due the lack of progress.

I like a slow burn, but this will require a big pay off, the way the story is going so far.

I haven't seen it yet, but I must say that with discoverly it was very similar, I also found the first season rather dull but the second season was miles better. So there is to hope season 2 of picard will really take off then.

Will we be watching though at that point..

I agree. And it seems very out of character.

Yeah, they really need to step things up.

Other than finding the extended scenes in Klingon annoying, I'd have to say that Discovery had me hooked by now.

Agreed on that. After the first two episodes I was totally hooked with Discovery.

 And to some extent that makes sense since our life experiences do shape us. they're trying to fill in the gaps of what's happened since we last saw him, but it's just not coming together for me. Other than how deeply Data's death effected Picard.

crazy_diamond 02-16-2020 01:05 PM

 exactly...
