I do like that we're getting some continuing storylines. While you could just watch individual episodes, it definitely helps to have seen them all.

I hope season 2 will feature the gorn. Since Kirk's fight with the gorn I always wanted to see more of them.

It would be interesting to see more of the Gorn. That fight scene is certainly an iconic moment in TOS.

An established species that we know very little about. It would give the writers lots of room for creativity.

I think that's part of the reason I am loving the show so much. It's so different from all the other Star Trek series but still the same at the core. I don't know if that makes sense or not
