Not gonna lie, I teared up a bit in a few places! I liked this episode!!

crazy_diamond 11-27-2020 04:11 AM

I thought this was another ok eppy..some really good bits in there though..

- So Book and Michael officially an item
- Oh my Vulcan changed their name and left the Federation
- Spock!! :sigh: and hearing Jean-Luc's name as well...:D
- Ok Tilly becoming Saru's Number One was a bit , she is an Ensign!, I can understand why he chose her, but still...
- Really liked the Michael/Tilly scenes and I'm glad Tilly called Michael out on a couple of things
- Michael's Mum appeared  and she didn't hold back on a few things!
- I'm glad Stamets was confused as I was in regards to Tilly
- Good Saru scenes in this eppy

This "burn" storyline is dragging it's feet though, the pacing is wrong

I enjoyed this episode more than the previous ones.

It was good to see Michael's mum again.

I enjoyed the future of the vulcans and romulans working things out together.

I still don't get why only a year caused Michael to feel this disconnected, though.

Great Tilly episode.

 That doesn't make much sense to me either. At least at the end of the episode she realizes that she belongs on Discovery.

It lovely to have the references to and flashbacks for Spock.

- opening scene between Tilly and Michael addressing their feelings was realistic

- Tilly as acting first officer?!?! she's an ensign! Although Saru is right that she'd always put Starfleet and the crew ahead of her own personal preferences, and the crew knows and trusts her. Very astute of Tilly to ask: "are you asking me because you think I'm qualified or because I'm compliant?" Love that she went to Paul for feedback, and his honest initial reaction. I'm not sure how realistic it was that the whole crew convinced her she was the right person for the job, Some of them must have had aspirations for the position.

- didn't like Michael's dismissive "of course, sir" when Saru asked if she was prepared to defend her theory

- Surprised to see Michael's mother. Some interesting interactions there. Michael didn't expect that her mother wouldn't blindly back her. Liked mom's line that "duty and joy go hand in hand"

- Saru has proven himself to be quite the diplomat.

- liked they used the line " the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few"

- overall a decent episode with some nice shout outs to TOS, and the mention of Picard.

I want to see more about Ni'var! Love it!

The Spock worshipping starts to get on my nerves, to be honest.

Tilly being the first officers makes no sense, I felt like watching that red squad ship. I don't think that's realistic, even though she's a brilliant person.

Me too , Paul was all of us there

Meliana 11-28-2020 05:32 AM

Yes Tilly as first officer does seem a bit strange, not the most obvious choice...

Chris 11-28-2020 06:33 AM

 Paul's initial reaction of disbelief that she'd be his boss was very realistic. While her crew mates obviously respect her, having the inner self confidence in your personal authority is something different.

While I'm sure he'd appreciate that his efforts paid off, I doubt he'd appreciate the hero worship.

Waldfrau 11-28-2020 08:22 AM

They should have waited with that a couple of seasons and promote her to liutennant, lt. cmdr. and then to commander first.

crazy_diamond 11-28-2020 01:12 PM

agreed..

Chris 11-28-2020 08:42 PM

 they could have easily promoted her to lieutenant at the end of last season which would have made this promotion much more realistic.
