[Discovery] 1:04 - The Butcher's Knife Cares Not for the Lamb's Cry

The Butcher's Knife Cares Not for the Lamb's Cry

With tensions and stakes high as Starfleet continues in their efforts to end the war with Klingons, Burnham begins to settle in to her new position aboard the U.S.S. Discovery.
That's one intriguing title.

I am loving Discovery, I really am! Lorca, Philippa, Michael.... and even Saru.

The Klingons.... I don't really care about the fanatics we've been seeing. They're necessary to the Discovery storyline, I get that, but they just don't interest me.

I'm having a big problem with the Klingons. They're supposed to be the big threat for the Federation, but in their scenes all they ever seem to do is have long-winded conversations in Klingon talking in a slow non-emotive way, with so much prosthetics the poor actors can't emote either. I find myself getting so bored I don't follow the conversation. Where is the fire of the Klingons we're used to? I think this could be a big mistake if it carries on this way.

Michael is still fun to watch, she also seems to be the only person can work out solutions to problems.

The jury is still out on the room mate for me.

It was sad the security officer was killed off so soon.

I was not expecting the creature to be the focus of this episode, so that was good.

In the main though, I was disappointed by this episode. Maybe I was spoiled after last week's one was so good. But it didn't hang together in its story structure as well, there was too much of Klingons standing around talking to each other, and there was little drama to hook me this time, unfortunately.

I know exactly what you mean. It's frustrating to have to read what amounts to a bunch of petty squabbling, and as you say, with no fire.

Tilly - I liked her much better this time. Especially what she said to Michael about opening Georgiou's box. Did we see what was in it? My recording cut out just before the very end.

Didn't expect to see the security officer die.

Glad that we learned more about the creature and that Michael figured out how to approach it.

Saru didn't appreciate it when he realized Michael wanted to talk to him solely to see if he perceived the creature as a threat. To me, it seemed like a great idea.

Stamets - was still arrogant with the captain, but seemed willing to listen to Michael.

Overall I enjoyed the episode. This series is definitely darker in tone and storyline.

I can agree with you on that. I really don't get why they didn't stick to the classic klingon look. But this show ,unlike the fan projects that were forbidden, is mostly there to make money. It's more than ever before all about money in our world. So action and monsters is the most important factor to bring in the masses of intellectually underdevelopped tv sheeps and the more intelligent real fans (which I consider all of us here) only come second. The issue is the modern times. They think people these days want action and blood. So the klingons look like monsters and not like people and the story of the third episode was a lot of horror. It was an exiting story for sure but not what I expect from star trek. This is mostly "star wars".

So far discovery mostly lacks what is actually written in the title "dicovery", to discover new worlds, the politics, the diplomacy. Action is important as well of course. But it shouldn't only be based on that. But modern star trek movies and show are mostly based on that so far, too little drama, important quetions and topics, dicovery and exploration etc. Generally in recent times sci-fi stuff or thrillers are all about big explosions, cgi battles and everything getting destroyed. CGI is cool and for many movies essential but since cgi film quality (in certain genres) also has continuously deteriorated. Visually appealing but not very interesting for the mind. Though there are still good moies and shows of course even in the fantasy and sci-fi genere, like GOT or stranger things as shows or the new blade runner as movie.

I hope we get more of classic star trek along the show. But if not I will definitely be disappointed. I liked the first episode most so far. But two and three not so much. Too dark, too mcuh horror and action. That is not genuine star trek.

Where are Klingons like Kor, Koloth, and Kang!! Martok even!! Those were Klingons!

Discovery's Klingons are.... to me.... Meh. *shrugs*

It was Philippa's Telescope, that's what she left to Michael. I will admit I nearly bawled at that scene!

Tilly is slowly growing on me, especially after she told Michael not to be afraid of opening the box.

My reaction to that was, "Ok then..."

That creature was kinda cute.... ya know when it wasn't mauling someone. I liked that Michael took a chance

Admittedly, she could have asked him straight out, but with the way he's been to her (justifiably hostile) she was working with the assumption that he wouldn't come.

Stamets is trying to be, and forgive the analogy, a bigger, badder dog than Lorca and just falls short. He's not an alpha compared to Lorca.

Michael saved his life, and that gesture changes how a person is perceived. Stamets is gonna be an arrogant jerk, but he'll tone it down with Michael.

I am really liking this show as well. When all the hubbub started about it, and people were complaining, I had to actively stay away from any Discovery news until I could see it for myself. And I am so glad I did.

Good eppy

Yeah agree with the comments about the Klingons, first off they still don't look like Klingons to be, I keep thinking that they are another species but speak Klingon. I hope that now with the seperation in the ranks, I hope those two on the ship now actually do something..

Stamets - still annoying, but I did like his scenes with Michael, seems a bit of respect is forming.

Glad that Michael figuring it out concerning the creature, I hope the creature doesn't die now...

That Captain sure keeps his crew on the tightrope..although when did spaceships jump?, warp yes, but I don't remember other ships doing it...

I had a finally the security officer was going to die.

Nice ending with Michael and her Captain..

Tracey - I believe the jump thing is due to the spore drive, which isn't around in the other series.

Thanks! And yes, I imagine Michael was feeling quite guilty while listening to Phillipa's message.

Sounds like most of us don't care for this version of Klingons.

Going by comments on articles and on youtube I'd say most people don't care for these klingons.

They certainly aren't making any good impressions. So far, most of the Klingon's we've seen have been whiners. :/ o_O

I could do without the weird Klingons, but in general, the show's starting to be exciting. I'm curious about Saru and rooting for a friendship between Michael and Tilly
